Let's have an Irisu/Erosu Syndrome thread.

Irisu Syndrome is a physics based puzzle game about a cute girl doing cute things.

Full game:

English patch:

I have the patch posted on a certain site and I've received a message from someone claiming to be the author of Irisu Syndrome. Since the message was in English and because of the manner in which I received the message, I'm pretty skeptical. Anyway, this person is asking if it would be okay to merge the patch with the original game files to make one version that's both English and Japanese.

I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem with it, but I'm hoping OSad or the anonymous translator will come in and provide input. My work on the patch only dealt with fixing spelling errors, so I don't feel I have any room to give an answer without their approval.

The gameplay should be pretty self explanatory. Left and right click to hit shapes into other shapes of the same color. It's a really boring game, but I'm okay with some people liking it.
What I hate about it is that, as with everything that is japanese, everyone thinks there's some really "deep meaning" to it just because they don't understand it.

Good news, there's nothing to understand here!
There's just a cute girl and a "dark" themed game. Just like Yumme Nikki.

I've never had drugs but I guess there's some common ground. People play these games in order to feel "deep and meaningful" just like they do drugs for the same (as well as for other reasons).

>> No.7084390 [DELETED]

That's because your mind is simply too plain. People don't like it because it's Japanese. Most people are absorbed by Irisu and enjoy the melancholic atmosphere the game has with a touch of 'cute'.

It's all a matter of being absorbed into the gamed or not. You certainly didn't so it's nothing special to you.

People will see meaning on anything as long as it represents something for them, we could even relate religion to this but let's not.

If this game really has a meaning behind its plot only Watson can answer and authors never do that since it doesn't matter if it originally had something to understand inside or not, as long as people see it, it's fine. It's all a matter of perspective after all, it's the same deal with Art.

And then again, we go back to the primal discussion of opinions too.

But you are clearly an imbecile after this "Fanbase of this game confirmed for the most pedantic, pretentious, haughty and arrogant fanbase." of yours.

Hello. Finally decided to give this a go yesterday. While I do find myself improving, I wish this game wasn't so hard just so I can unlock the next part of the story (I'm that fag who plays games for the contents rather than gameplay). But I love the music, art, and atmosphere. And this game has made me shit bricks a few times now, so it is worth it.

Thanks to whoever that made the chart. It was hard to understand at first, but it did help a lot.

I found a typo in one of the notes. In "Suicidal Rabbit Diary", I don't know the Japanese script, but I'm pretty sure "disperse cats' lives" should be "despise cats' lives".

I still can't fully grasp the mechanic of the game. Sometimes, my blocks "rot" even before they hit the ground. What causes this?

After extracting the translated files, it doesn't seem like there is any more to the story. The second ending is the last ending (at least, until Kai is released). I can finally move on to other things now.

Though it's too bad I didn't manage to unlock that final picture and whatever story/event that comes with it, I no longer intend to. The first mode is just too damn hard compared to Metsu (dem spinning triangles, man, goddamn). I find Metsu more enjoyable and will keep playing it.

Looking forward to playing Kai with you guys once it's released (or whatever games you're going to translate). Until then, take it easy.

Metsu is ridiculously hard, I don't know how you people can focus on both sides of the screen at once like that. Irisu is so much easier in my opinion. Whereas on Irisu I usually last until level 50, on Metsu I have trouble surviving past 20.

TEACH ME YOUR SECRETS, METSU PLAYERS.

>> No.7102999 [DELETED]

>>7102819
It's easier to lose on Irisu. Metsu is more merciful towards mistakes.

>> No.7103848

I've found that focusing on getting rid of spheres, usually just by bumping them with a single block, is a good way to play. You don't need to focus on knocking falling blocks into each other as much as in normal mode since the spheres give you an alternate way of eliminating blocks, and since there are more colors in metsu getting combos is harder anyway. If you ignore the spheres and just play normally, they'll fill up and decrease the size of your playing field, which makes the game much harder.

BTW I just started playing this the other day, and I already unlocked everything except for the final 100,000 points and level 100 endings, which I feel like I'll probably be able to unlock today, because I keep getting better scores each time I play. I'm surprised /jp/ thinks this game is hard, considering this is a board full of people who play Touhou on Lunatic, which is something that I could never do...

I'm not as good as the experts here, but I'll tell you what I've learnt.

Some things you can do:

- Make bubbles surface immediately by touching them.
- Make them drop to the side, although I've only done this accidentally.
- Move bubbles with your tofu (white blocks). Shoot them from the side Or make a mountain of tofu underneath.
- Make floating bubbles drop to the ground by touching them.

- Move rotted blocks around. Shoot them upwards/sidewards or make a mountain of tofu underneath.
- Shoot rotted blocks toward falling blocks. Be careful, this often backfires more than it helps.

- Right-click for stronger tofu. Also useful for manipulating bubbles and rotted blocks.
- Simply touch a falling block to make it fall straight down, instead of shooting at it.

(continued)

>> No.7104841

>>7104838

Some general tips:

- Don't leave bubbles and rotted blocks to pile up. Rather than making combos out of falling block, focus more on getting rid of bubbles and rotted blocks. I find rotted blocks to be more dangerous as you need to get rid of them one by one. At least with bubbles you can do bubble combos.

- Try not to go over half the screen. Keep clicking on floating bubbles to make them fall.

- I prefer to wait for more bubbles and blocks to appear (giving me more options) before deciding which falling blocks to deal with and how. Although this can easily backfire when too many blocks are falling faster than I can handle. Just make sure your blocks can fall without rotting (i.e. there is a bubble, a rotted block, or another falling block to connect to) while keeping bubbles and rotted blocks count low.

- Sometimes you just have to let blocks fall and rot while focusing on other blocks. Brush one aside to make a path for more important blocks if you have to.

- Don't stress it when you screw up. Keep your cool and do some damage control. Never give up, never surrender. See it through to the end.

I started a fresh Irisu game just to unlock that final picture, which I thankfully did. The picture simply appeared in the game folder, no in-game event whatsoever. NOW I can move on with my life. Here's the replay if anyone's interested.

One thing I noticed with this playthrough is how different I played Irisu and Metsu.

Metsu's gameplay is more strategic and laidback. Keeping bubble/block count low has higher priority than doing combos. Most of the time I find myself carefully guiding and dropping blocks on top of bubbles and blocks.

Irisu, on the other hand, is more about staying alive by chaining blocks together (you get more points and life with chains). So I often find myself letting blocks pile up mid-air, then clicking everything like crazy to get chains (shit's intense). I don't worry too much about what's already on the ground, since chained blocks usually cancel them out (also, no bubbles like Metsu).

I don't know how you play Metsu, but I guess the main problem is getting rid of the bubbles and blocks. You'll just have to get used to guiding and dropping blocks. If the blocks are chained, you won't have to worry about where they'll fall, so you can simply right-click them towards your target without caring much. Hope this helps.

If it's any consolation, the first time I saw her feet coming out the left side of my monitor, I freaked out and squealed like a little bitch. I tried to close the game frantically, but freaking wtetsu decided to be a major troll and not allow you to close the game while the cutscene is playing. After the game closed on it's own, I couldn't bring myself to open it again until the next day.

That night, I couldn't sleep because I thought she was looking right at my back, tearing a hole through my spine with those red eyes. Heck, I couldn't bring myself to move or make noises.

If you ever want to give someone a real good scare, have them play this game with a second monitor set to dual view to the left of their primary monitor. I have a second monitor mounted on a monitor arm so that it's suspended to the left of my head. When I got the ending, I was looking at the window in the middle of my main screen, when suddenly out of the corner of my eye I saw Irisu appear on the screen that was right next to my head. I was so startled I actually screamed when this happened.
