I was hoping /jp/ could help me with the battle system with Ar Tonelico 3.
I'm loving the game a lot, its a wonderful series, but the 3rd one's battle system is kinda throwing me off.

As I understand, you're supposed to match your attacks with the harmograph at the bottom when they have high notes; which is supposed to match with the music something? So there should be rhythmic action going on?

But how is that possible when the harmograph is different every time. Am I supposed to stand around in neutral stance and only attack when I get high enough notes to get a beat up?

Also Ar Tonelico general.

>> No.7091692

The bars seem to change at random when I played. The game is so easy, even on hard that you don't even need to worry about songs except for some bosses. Just attack normally, and if you see a high red bar, make sure you get an attack in that frame.

Every pirate I know of has a sizable collection of games or is too young to have a job, and all of the (admittedly very limited) research on the matter suggests this is the norm. If you're going to insist that humanity consists almost entirely of selfish pricks, you're going to need to back it up with some evidence. Unfortunately, I'm quite confident the evidence doesn't exist.

The vast majority of humans are basically good, so stop acting like you can never trust them with anything. That kind of fear is what causes most real crime in the first place.

You can look into U.S. government movie piracy and Japanese government anime piracy research, too, but I'm too lazy to find links for everything. The former found that movie piracy is a non-issue at worst, and the latter found that the anime industry would collapse if not for the marketing help of piracy.

As for games specifically, I haven't heard of any research, but many prominent figures in the industry (such as Satoru Iwata) have stated that piracy isn't among the most significant causes of poor sales. On the other hand, research HAS suggested that gamers have more company loyalty than any other type of entertainment media fan, so it is likely that game pirates drop more money on games than other pirates do on their favorite medium. For evidence, I don't even need a link--just think of all of the insufferable fanboyism you see in regards to video games and you'll know it's true.

Because they play stuff they wouldn't even consider buying. Or like me don't have the income. Games cost around 50€ each in Europe. Well 100$ in my Country. The average pay is 1000$, only the guys in the capital have that much, here in my part it's more like 600$ per month. After paying everything you are left with about 50$ a month on stuff and 99% of the people don't waste it on games.

I myself am a super huge pirate fag, only recently at the age of 19 did I start buying shit because I finally had the money to do it.

And even now I only buy games I like or want to play even if they suck because I like some aspect of the game or maybe even developers.

That being said, I never buy DS games because there enough people that buy that, DS isn't going to die and was never, also I hate the fact that I have to carry around shitty cartridges instead of having it all on my console ready to play whenever.

TL;DR If games didn't cost so fucking much maybe people would buy them.

PS. For fucks sake 40$ for Pokemon, a game that costs less then 100.000$ to make earns every year or so more then 30 million dollars.

This article has nothing to do with video game piracy.

>You can look into U.S. government movie piracy and Japanese government anime piracy research, too, but I'm too lazy to find links for everything.
I can't find any links on this stuff. I relied on you to show me evidence that piracy helps the gaming industry.

>The former found that movie piracy is a non-issue at worst, and the latter found that the anime industry would collapse if not for the marketing help of piracy.
I don't care about either of these issues, unless of course you can show me evidence of a correlation between anime/movie piracy and video game piracy.

>As for games specifically, I haven't heard of any research, but many prominent figures in the industry (such as Satoru Iwata) have stated that piracy isn't among the most significant causes of poor sales.
It is still one of the causes. Mr. Iwata doesn't seem to have any evidence backing him either, so I'm going to ignore this point.

Yes, you do need a link. Googling does not lead me to any research suggesting that gamers have more company loyalty than anyone else. As for your last "point," /v/ children and Gamefags posts are not sufficient evidence to suggest anything of the sort.

Eh, I think it is kind of silly to say piracy is helping the industry, but people just do it because of the idiots pushing the other extreme, that somehow piracy is going to completely kill the industry. It's like saying shoplifting is going to bankrupt walmart. Yeah, it's a problem, but they know about it, and plan their business accordingly. And in that case they actually suffer a monetary loss for every product taken, here it's just a few theoretical "lost sales." Don't get me wrong, I think piracy is completely immoral, but I do not think it is going to kill the gaming industry or anything like that. In hard mode, it's normal for your characters to die quickly. As suggested, spam items and only really try to hit the red beats. It's also better to focus your efforts on interrupting enemies by hitstunning them when possible, and try to buy as much time as possible for your burst meter. Song magic will be your main source of damage in hard mode. I don't know what >>7091692 was smoking unless he only played hard mode on New Game+.

Also another question if you don't mind, thanks for the help.
How exactly do you purge to the next level? I've read the glossary several times but it doesn't explain it too well. I'm supposed to hold off on purging right away and then do it later or something? Or do I purge once and wait for the Purge ready sign to appear? Because that never happens. She always loses control.

No, you're supposed to do your best to avoid getting your characters damaged while you wait for red beat opportunities. This means avoid getting NPCs double-teamed (they're terrible at handling that), and use hitstun-heavy special attacks when possible, especially if they have wide areas of effect.

At the start of the game you can only purge one level at a time. Hold down one of the shoulder buttons and shake up and down. These can be done as soon as the Purge Ready message appears. As you progress multi-level purges will become available, but you'll have to keep track of how many beats you've hit on your own, because it can fail even though the meter says Purge Ready.

Be careful that you don't deplete your singer's MP once purged early on in the game.

I never really got the point of multi-level purges, unless you had to delay purging for a while for some reason. It's better to purge right away for most characters since their burst rate increases once purged.

The lack of battle-themed AT3 pictures out there makes me really sad.
