Just because my waifu doesn't exist on this plane of reality doesn't mean that she doesn't exist. I believe that every character that we create lives in their own little world that was created along with or for them. And who knows, maybe we're characters in a story our waifus read, or even maybe created themselves.

I'd like to think that anything that makes you happy, as long as it's not hurting you, should be something you should just do. Something that makes you happy, is something that matters to you, and obviously being happy is the goal. And who's to say if it's hurting you but yourself. Anyways, putting your maybe obsessive feelings on a waifu seems more healthy than on a 3D girl, because you can fully express yourself to her.

I think that's half-valid.
But factors like 'convenience' and 'peace of mind' are equally valid reasons to properly fall in love with a real girl, and hence in this case, they're just another factor that contributes to our love of 2D.

Let's say you loved your waifu because of her characteristics that were manifested in one of her iterations, say, the first game in a series. However, in a succeeding game, parts of her personality have changed for no apparent reason(?), and the qualities of her changed personality no longer appeal to you. (In my case, the former parts of her personality were the defining points of why I loved her) What are you supposed to do, just ignore that change and love her as you did before the change, struggle with the new change, or should you just give her up?

As for this whole real girl vs 2D argument...real-life relationships are messy since not only are you selfish, but everyone around you is as well. That's the only reason why people tend to do things. The fact of the matter is that each moment, we die. That is to say that the person we are a moment later is not the same person we were a moment before. The person from a moment ago is dead, we have simply inherited their memories and their state of mind.

Now, these deaths stacked up over a large amount of time can be very significant. The current iteration will be very different from the one that died ten years ago. And if they are completely different, perhaps even embodiments of everything you hate, are you supposed to go on loving them? There is no logic there. Only an idea that sounds valiant to some idiot. In this case, you're only continuing to love "them" out of necessity. If they have changed significantly so much that they no longer even resemble the past self you fell in love with, you are completely justified in not feeling the same way anymore.

Now with 2D, this change is different. It occurs all at once, if it ever occurs. The next iteration of the character can be hugely different. Since it's not even a gradual process, the effect can be jarring. That makes it even more justified in the case of 2D.

That's why he created Chii, who possessed emotions. If Chii could gain the true love of a human then a program within her would trigger that would enable all persocoms to feel emotions. There was a deadline however, and if Chii had not gained true love by then, the program would shut her down and things would just remain as they were.

If anything the series tries to point out that even the persocoms were deserving of love, and that any feelings felt by, or given towards them is very, very real.

Point is, does being alive or not really have anything to do with it? There are living things that do not possess emotions after all, so if an AI was actually self aware, it could also possess emotions. Despite not being alive it could still feel alive.

Creativity has nothing to do with it, evolution serves a genetic purpose beyond just adaptation. In fact "adaptation" isn't really the right word, but never mind that. A species needs to evolve in order to persevere on a genetic level, the same way we need to diversify our genetic code so our children don't end up as mutants.
Failing that a species will reach the peak of it's evolution, this does not mean that it's become as "good" as it can be, there is no good or bad in evolution, simply change. What this means instead, is that the species will no longer evolve.
When a species no longer evolves, there is only one outcome left, death. Just as all living things have a lifespan, so does every species, evolution extends that lifespan, lack of it means the eventual end of a species.

It's a simplification, but you can get my point I think.
