Have you ever bee watching an anime based off of a manga and they were standing around talking for too fucking long when they should have been doing something important?

That scene was stupid in the manga, and it was stupid in the anime. And yet it's not until you see it in anime form that you realize how silly the whole thing is. Sometimes things aren't as offensive when you in one medium, but seem completely ridiculous in another. You can see things in a whole new light in a different medium.

So I decided to check out the Umineko anime to see what all the fuss was about. I read the VN and thought it was mediocre, I just wanted to see this supposedly rage worthy adaptation. Instead of finding a butchered VN, I found a much more important realization:

Umineko is complete trash. All of it. It wasn't as offensive when I was reading the VN, but when you see it animated you realize how nonsensical and shitty the whole thing is. This whole ordeal has left a bad taste in my mouth, I don't know how to explain it.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I thought the mansion looked plain and I didn't feel like watching shit that I already read. That's why I dropped it.

herp derp witches dont exist, magic isn't real! oh shit is that a goat butler? did that bitch just turn into butterflies? nahh fuck magic

>> No.7081786

the sign of a good production team is that you can't tell what the original story medium was. usually there are dead giveaways, especially if it's a light novel or vn.

Why is it obvious for an LN?

They're usually rushed but they're more than passable as an original

That's highly accurate. I was pretty buttmad over the adaptation at first, but in hindsight I thank DEEN immensely for snapping me out of my blind Umineshit worship.

I watched the anime first. I remembered thinking after the first 2 or 3 episodes that it looked pretty good, so I read the VNs.
The anime went more and more downhill once they started adding magic.

Protagonist monologue.
You either get:

1. A whole shitton of it, making it boring, like in Index.

2. None of it, making the protagonist look like a moron, like in Kempfer or IS.

It's worse for VNs, which also may have to deal with branching storylines.

Original anime typically don't have much inner monologue either. Neither do manga...
Thought I guess your argument is that it's the lack of the inner monologue that makes them look like an idiot in these cases?

But most protagonists are idiots and anime adapted from manga don't have much inner monologues either

>> No.7082284

>>7082195
I'm saying that LN and VN protagonists rely more heavily on monologue.

The drone scene in IS doesn't make much sense in the anime because they took out Ichika's perspective. In the novel, he had a more solid reason to believe the enemy was a drone, and he was secretly communicating with Cecilia for sniper assistance.

In the anime it boiled down to "the enemy is a drone because he's listening instead of attacking while we talk" and then "rush in without a plan and then get saved last minute."

I thought even the haters recognize they were pretty good and a pretty good setup

It's cool to hate what's popular, granted Umineko had it coming for some of the stupid shit it pulled.
Personally I will always like it, more for the ride than the conclusion.

I really liked episode 3.
Otherwise rest is average, though episode 4 is pretty mediocre honestly.

I don't know if a series where I only really liked one episode could be considered as solid though

So, basically, what you are saying is that you only care about the content, and the content of umineko was shit.
I'm ok with this.

But I think it's a shame that you don't care about the form. Because the form is what made the difference between the first episodes (which were ok) and the other ones (which were shitty).
