What is a good martial art to learn /jp/?

I've done karate years ago, but was only for 3 months and only have yellow belt.

I'm thinking of resuming my martial art career.

So, any suggestions?

You should practice Aikido
Arguably the most powerful martial arts in Japan.

An Aikido practitioner is practically invincible, no one of any martial arts background can ever land a punch or kick on one.

Using the power of the attacker, the Aikido practitioner uses absolutely no energy to knock them down.

A fearsome martial arts it is

Aikido, it's the best. You actually you the force of your opponent against him, so the weak can fight against the strong. It's very beautiful.

I believe you shouldn't underestimate Aikido, you could kill a charging rhino using his own power etc.
I could tell you the story of my life, which is related to Aikido but I'm too lazy.

Aikido

Krava Maga if you want to pull people's eyes out and kick them in the balls

>> No.7067635

OP here, I've done karate and enjoyed it.

However, Aikido seems to take much time to properly learn.

I mean, with just 3 months of training you will mess up everything and make a defense move with no sense and get kicked.

More than that, yes, it is very good indeed.

Also it doesn't have that belt bullshit that karate has.

Considered Muai Thai, however it is too similiar to kickboxing, not my prefered thing.

Problem with Aikido is that I love to do tons of exercise. Not sure if you do much exercise on Aikido, or just some grappling techniques.

And no, I don't believe in the rhino thing.

Ninjutsu is also intersting, but there is only a ninjutsu dojo 400 km of where I live, and ninjutsu outside japan is usually bullcrap.

Also why you guys don't like karate? I will either do karate or aikido.

Aikido is the only oficially /jp/ approved martial art, and as you know, anything with the /jp/ seal of quality has enough crediblity to earn your trust.

Clearly Shaolin Kung Fu is the way to go. They have skills like this.

>The Cinnabar Palm (硃砂掌) is said to yield great benefits to the practitioner but such claims are not supported by modern science. During training, the practitioner fills a vessel with sand and continuously rubs his hands in the sand until he is worn out. As he progresses, he moves his hands further away from the sand until he can move the sand even when they are about 30 cm away. After this, the sand is replaced with an iron weight and subsequently, heavier iron balls. Mastery is achieved when the practitioner can move the iron balls without touching them. This skill is said to take 15 years to master. Upon mastery, the practitioner can cause his opponent to die within 10–15 days after striking them with his palm, even when he is at a distance away from his opponent.

So basically you get so good at groping that you can grope the shit out of iron balls at a distance.

>Also why you guys don't like karate?
i've learned nothing, it was always "KICK, PUNCH, IT'S ALL IN YOUR MIND !"
no real technique, doesn't look useful in a streetfight and you only do punch and kick with a shitty stance that you will never use in real life

Krav Maga is the most effective for street fights. You can't practice a lot of the moves safely, because they usually involve throat strikes, groin strikes, eye gouging, and nose ripping.

Maybe you weren't fit for karate. It actually requires some mind endurance.

If you want something movie like, try boxing or kickboxing.

I liked karate a lot

i did Viet vo dao after, and i've learned more after a few month than a whole year with karate, we learned how to roll, how to fall without getting hurt if it happen and the best of this martial art, struggling your opponent with your legs.
Viet vo dao was more tiring physically and mentally than karate, i remember being so hot that i was able to walk 20 minute outside with -7 degree

also most martial arts are like that.

if you did kendo you would complain that it's just "hurr durr swing the sword front and back for half a year"

or if you did kung fu you would complain "hurr durr I just practice stances I never use and move around some eastern sword I will never use on first half year"

>> No.7067675

Taekwondo is really good for self defense, also it's not very hard to learn.

>> No.7067678

>>7067649

Most karate schools are referred to as Mcdojos. They don't teach any practical self defense and just have you do a couple pushups and punch the air for an hour a day. If you found a real karate school, then that's great.

I'd recommend shaolin kung fu for the OP. There's a lot of exercise and conditioning involved. If you find a good school, you won't even learn how to punch someone for a few months as the beginning is all conditioning. It's a pretty complete martial art with punches, kicks, take-downs, etc.

This right here, all other styles are trash compared to this in a street fight. Not like any of you will be joining tournaments and this is probably to stop bullies so go with this.

Depends on your karate teachers

They allowed me to do stuff much more advanced than white belt, and I was usually physically shaking after each train

Also I once accidentally broke a door with a kick

The real question is: why do you want to do it?
Self-defense?
To look cool?
Sport?
Discipline?
Excercise?
etc. That would determine which martial arts you should be looking towards.
There are a lot of 'trap' schools especially for karate and taekwondo, but at a good school they are a good martial art.
It really all depends on what you are looking for though. Especially for Self-defense, because many martial arts just really aren't geared to getting quick results in that regard.

I enjoyed Mixed Martial Arts when I did it, which was for about 3 months.

For striking, I learned aspects of boxing and muay thai

For grappling, I learned aspects of Brazilian jiu-jutsu and a little bit of judo.

I don't know how good it is for self-defense, but I thought it was fun, and the simplicity of the moves made it seem like it could be learned relatively quickly.
