Old thread 404'd just when I wanted to post SNX tools.

http://www.mediafire.com/?grmi63g7brfc753

snx_dec.exe somefile.snx somefile.txt
- Decompile snx to txt file
snx_com.exe somefile.txt somefile.snx
- Compile it back

Verified it on few files, SNX->TXT->SNX produces exactly same SNX as on input.

<-- Diff for original JP version vs. original EN version without voice.

Another diff, this time original english vs english with voice. You can see how voice is added by using some other command than what is used in original JP version.

>> No.7043432

>>7043369
It's the command for playing SE. I used it in the demo because it had voice playback turned off.
Maybe it's different for the full game, I never tried. I just used the SE command again because I already had that figured out.

Alright guys - not sure how much work needs to be done here, but I'd really love to see a voice patch.

Warning you ahead of time, burned out on midterms, so don't expect me to think - but if there's any mindless work I can do here to help things along post some instructions (and any links needed) and I'll get on it.

>> No.7043749

To add to that, I'd like to start from scratch, honestly. The last voice patch produced so many errors I think it would be better to start over than to try and fix it.

Or am I mistaken about that?

>> No.7043768

Well, I see no reason we can't at least make use of the scripts from the last patch, I mean it would probably be pretty easy to use regexes to make corrections if needed.

Actually... do you still have the link where the one anon uploaded all the fixed scripts in .txt format?

We could always try recompiling those with the new tool. Of course, 50/50 chance they were broken by the decompiler and not the recompiler... but it's worth a shot.

>> No.7043913

>>7043768
problem is that you can't easily extract voice from JP version. Sometimes there is one more line of text or some extra commands in it.
It is booring job editing it manually, but by looking on code, you can make decisions if code differs.

Also if anyone wants, I can upload just SNX and decompiled TXTs from original JP and original EN version (so you don't have to download DVD image to get them).

I'm looking in EXE with IDA for some hints on what different opcodes do. Also if there is any way to enable voice support in english exe.
But for now, the SE audio opcodes ([15,32,6]...[12,0,0] as seen on >>7043572) seems to be easiest way and it works.

Actual process of adding voice from scratch:
- Load side by side original JP version and original EN version
- When you see voice reference in JP code, paste block of SE audio opcodes to EN code (yellow block) and change name to voice name from JP code
- Repeat, repeat, ...

>> No.7043939

>>7043913
>Also if anyone wants, I can upload just SNX and decompiled TXTs from original JP and original EN version (so you don't have to download DVD image to get them).

That would be great. Might as well get started on it, if it's ever going to happen.

Nurio (MG Dev) posted on the MG forums a bit ago he wouldn't be surprised if the voice patch was 2 years or more off.

This is correct code, but there is no voice support in english exe so it plays nothing.

Try adding command sequence like on >>7043572 screenshot. Insert:

17 2 STR:voice_name_here
17 1 0

12 0 0
Insert it before "15 x x" line that is always before text reference one (17 2 string), like on that screenshot.

Just some info on my experience with using the jap engin.

back for the trial i got the voices working by inserting the English files in to the jap engin.

There were 3 big problems with this:
1. the font and word warping was bad the older engine isnt built for English so it displays poorly.

2. game pauses every now and then the game would just stop and not advance when i clicked. i could skip these parts by taping the skip button and scrolling back to see what i missed but this was annoying.

3. no windows 7 compatibility i could not get this game to run on windows 7 64 bit i eventually just used a VM with XP to play it.

if you are planing to insert the English scripts into the Japanese games theses are some of the problems you will have.

Problem is not finding the voice opcodes, problem is matching it with english text.
Sometimes, there is extra dialog for JP or EN and that messes up automatic conversion.

[13 18 0] or [13 19 0] can be used to split dialog by characters (this is function call to load character image or background image).

After splitting, count number of display calls and if same for both languages, you can insert voice automatically.
This would probably work for 90% of all code. After that, do rest of it manually.

I'm using Notepad++, and I just inserted "ins_voice(voice_file_name)" in appropriate places, and then run a regex replace on the whole file:

Replace:
>^\s+ins_voice\(([^\)]+)\)
with:

While going through 0SNMAIN-005B1, I found this entry. It seems that MG forgot to delete one of the lines regarding the voice files, should I replace it with what we've been doing with all other entries?

If you've already deleted it that's fine, my fault - but in the scripts I've been working on I have yet to see something appended with an "a" - format has always been:

Solved this problem by using a clean install without the voice patch, got myself to the next home/base phase, saving, then transferring that save over to the voiced install.

Just a workaround for anyone having the same problem as me.

Good work!

But I think we have a problem:
After analyzing the code of parser in exe, I found there are conditional opcodes and also JUMP opcodes. When we insert code to snx file, these jump addresses have to be corrected as well.

When not corrected, some scripts may loop or crash even when voice is added properly.

Conditional code is used in ~70 script files, so this isn't some marginal problem. I'm working on better disassembler to convert numbers into meaningful instructions.

For now, quick search for conditional code:
Opcodes [8 ? ?] [9 ? ?] [10 ? ?] are all jumps, so if you see them in file, you can mark it as possibly buggy.

Also please report any looping or crashes or other issues with FIXED scripts. I will check them all.

They probably have higher level compiler for this, so scripts are written in some nice C style language or something. It's not made to be edited in this format.
Entire game is written in this script, it's not just some binary text file. Main menu, fighting interface and even fighting logic... all is implemented in this scripting language.

Image: I'm getting close to some little bit readable assembler code, but still it's a mess.

VASTT is useless because we are not translating strings. We are adding code to play voice audio. That means adding new instructions. VASTT can't do that, it can only edit string table at the end of file, it can't decompile actual code.

Enshou
"My! Now that I'm here..."

Bunshuu
"Oh, that's true. I'm sure they resent her... etc"

Ganryou
"Be careful of what?"

Ganryou
"Reiha-sama! " (just before "Hey, Toshi.")

Enshou
"A great leader is here? Beside myself?"

Ganryou
"Koumei-chan... If you're here, that voice must belong to..."

Ganryou
"Enshou-sama is looking for the southern paradise now."

Bunshuu
"We'll explain to Reiha-sama later. I'll take the Princess, etc".

I restarted the game from the beginning, and skipped everything before this scene just to be sure, so it's not a problem from a corrupted save.

I downloaded final 3 but SNKOCHU-004 still isn't working for me, the beginning of the scene keeps repeating.

"Hee, hee, I feel the same way, Shunran"
0SNMAIN-005B2: wrong voice call for Aisha: "We are being completely looked down upon."
SNTOUTAKU-001: unvoiced line: Ei: "N-no, I'm not! I'm just mad"

Damn.. I was hoping this last patch would fix my crashing problem. I'm right before the 2nd battle in the war with Gi I think. Once I start the phase.. if I right click or try to save or anything it crashes. Maybe even with it completely fixed.. my game is borked enough that I have to start over? :/

Hmm.. guess I'll wait for the next update and hope for the best.
Or I'll finally give up and speed through a new game on a clean/voiceless install past this point heh.

If you're using a save, then it could be the save causing the problems.

The best way to see if that's the case is starting a new game.

>> No.7050572

just started a new one with the voice update 1.2 and noticed that aisha's second homebase scene isnt voice, i think the script might be missing since it skips from sn-kanu-001 to 003

I'm having the same problem and this is from starting a new game using final3.

>> No.7050610

>>7050605

final3 did not address several errors that could be causing this.

Please only report errors made from a new game with the latest version of the patch.

NO SAVEGAME CAN BE CONSIDERED COMPATIBLE BETWEEN ANY TWO VERSIONS OF THE PATCH. (Though if you save it bases they'll likely be fine.)
