/jp/, you're the people to come to for Visual Novel things.
Could you perhaps tell me what I've done wrong here?

Not really, no.

Shit writing is shit writing. If you can get over it in VNs, I have no reason to see why someone couldn't get over writing style for actual books, unless it's UNSPEAKABLY HORRIBLE, which martin doesn't go under.

There are 8 of them. One is killed off, and one gets a tiny amount of chapters in comparison.

Your complaints are overexxagerated. And to be quite frank, there are only one or two instances in the novel where cliffhangers are used at the end of a chapter for a particular character.

>And I meant writing style as in the way he writes.

No shit sherlock. I'm saying VNs are written MUCH WORSE, and if you can't put up with Martin you're really looking in the wrong place.

Visual endings also have the advantage of displaying one sentence at a time. I'm sure most people who grew up with the web don't read perfectly linearly, but skip forwards and back sometimes. >I didn't say they weren't overexaggerated. I just said they were complaints.

Then your complaints are pretty dumb, seeing as I already pointed out cliffhangers are barely used throughout, and in fact, in numerous occaisons, the story of another character is progressed through a differnet one.

You're just failing to see that the book tells 3 stories, not one.

I never said that that's why I stopped reading. You're reading too much into what I'm saying. I said I didn't like it, I was asked why, I gave a few reasons. I didn't say they were incredibly horrible things, I just said I didn't like them. I ultimately stopped reading because I didn't like the author's writing. Not because characters were fleshed out, not because there was so many PoV changes in so few chapters. I just didn't like it that much and decided to read something else.

One day I plan to go back and finish it. It was not so bad that I would never again read it. I said "I didn't like it", not that I hated it. It was not exceptional, but it was not bad. It was average for me, and incited no emotion.

It was not a bad book, I just didn't enjoy it. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's a good book, and I will probably enjoy it when I come back to it. But at this point in time I did not enjoy it. Do not take this personally. I am not decrying your intelligence or claiming you have bad tastes. Writing style as in "the way he structures his sentences, plot threads, and dialogue." Yes, PoV changes and character flesh is part of writing style. Again though, it is -how- he did it. I did not care for the way he wrote. It was not "Oh God this sucks" it was "meh, I'll come back to this". It was a simple thing of me not being interested at the time. And if you must know, I stopped reading at about the point were Bran was pushed off the roof. Fine then, instead of leaving no impression, it left very little impression.
And it's not supposed to give leeway to my argument. I'm not even arguing, I'm just giving reasons why it didn't interest me.

I just didn't like it as much as I could have, my library fines were piling up, and so I turned it back in and checked out White Night of the Dresden Files. It was a good, fun book to read. From there I moved onto Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn and it's sequel, Well of Ages. They were also good, fun books. Hell, Well of Ages was an interesting read because it was pretty much a whole book of the main characters, now rulers of a city, sitting in the Keep with three armies at the gates going "Ah shit, we're fucked." and still coming out of it alive.
