Not always. HF just had a very unconvincing cartharsis/climax/epiphany on Day 7 and on. Mind of Steel is a fine alternative to that trainwreck.

Not really, people just didn't see the obvious ways for both Rin and later, Ilya could have turned the situation around. People just don't stop to think and played right into the hands of the people who really had the worse intentions. Good job there Shirou, you helped Kotomine cause the last members of the Tohsaka family the maximum amount of grief and pain. Then you killed them. What a hero.

People who call it a fine alternative care little for the other characters feelings(except for Kotomine and Gil of course), and are hung up on their dislike for Sakura, period. That ending was the extreme endpoint that even Kiritsugu saw (all too late) was the wrong path.
