That's another option I'm exploring at the moment, especially since I really want to play The Witcher 2 when it comes out in a few months, and I doubt my Q6600 is going to be good enough for that. Then again, I have never messed with the insides of a computer, so replacing the CPU might be a bit too much for me.
I guess I'll wait a month or two and then make a decision. If I get lucky, I might have another source of income by then, so I won't even have to feel bad about spending that money.

After getting rid of the dust inside of my PC for the first time since I bought it (2 years ago), I realized that my CPU's temperature was suddenly 10°C lower than it used to be. After reading a few guides, I decided to go on a little adventure and tried to overclock it. I heard the Q6600 can go as fast 3.2GHz without any problems. Unfortunately, I only got to 2.88GHz before I started getting BSODs like crazy, which probably happened because my RAM clocks at a mere 533MHz. I still haven't quite figured out what kind of role the RAM's frequency plays in this equation, other than that there's some sort of FSB:DRAM ratio that needs to have a certain value which seems to be different for each mainboard. Oh well, at least the slowdown in Luca and Mi'hen Highroads in FFX is as good as gone. Time to buy some 800MHz RAM modules and see how far I can get with that.

The difference in achievable depth between my 22" and 46" 3D displays is enormous, so the 3DS' tiny screen isn't much of a draw here, even though I love S3D gaming. As for NGP, it's getting a new Minna no Golf and Lumines game so it's already bought regardless of what other games may be coming.

I received my new RAM modules today, only to realize that they are in fact slower than the ones I already had. Long story short, I found out the hard way what "dual channel" means.
At least I was able to figure out the cause of the BSoDs that kept appearing when I overclocked past 2.88GHz. The CPU was just undervolted; increasing the voltage slightly fixed the problem. Now it's stable at 3.0, though it got pretty hot when I did some testing with Prime95. I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to go for 3.2.

Oh right, to keep the post slightly on-topic for a change: I heard Aya is going to voice Prishe in Dissidia 012! Yeah, I don't care either.

Are you still using the stock HSF that came with your CPU? If so, you should go back to stock clocks until you get proper cooling.

Being a mini-ATX guy (I'm a sucker for Abee's beautiful cases), I don't have any experienced recommendations on those massive towers of aluminum and copper with fans all over them (from Noctua, Prolimatech etc), but anything like that will be a big improvement over a stock cooler. Get one before going with a 24/7 overclock.

No, I'm using an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, which is supposedly pretty good. The idle temperature is somewhere between 38-42°C. After 20 minutes of Prime, it goes up to 68°C (70°C for Core 0). But I'm not sure if these numbers matter, considering that nothing I usually run on my PC takes full advantage of all 4 cores. For example, I was playing FFX on PCSX2 all afternoon and the average temperature never exceeded 55°C.

What a shitty end to a disappointing season... oh well, at least I have baseball to look forward to.

I miss the old DHAF, I was a big supporter of Aya, especially during the height of the Aya /jp/ troll days. I used to make Aya threads out of spite of the trolls.

I have given up on MvC3. There are things in life I just wasn't meant to do, playing this game is one of them.
Other than coming to this conclusion, I have been doing the usual, so nothing of interest. If you really want to know, I finished watching Nagareboshi (J-Drama) a couple of days ago, another great performance by Ueto Aya (or as I like to call her, "Superiorest Aya"). But yeah, that's pretty much it. I'm on semester break which means I'm even less motivated to do anything than usual. I played the demo on my PS3 the other day and enjoyed it. For some reason it made me remember the great time I had playing through the first two Serious Sam games in co-op mode many, many years ago. Man, I loved those games.
Anyway, I'm glad that developers are starting to make those silly, over-the-top shooters again, because the world has seen more than enough pseudo-realistic and grimdark FPSs à la CoD and Gears of War in the past few years. Nah, I'll be more than happy when I have a job. I love translating things and it beats being bored all day. It's just that the whole application and interview stuff is a big obstacle for me. I apparently qualify for an "academic excellence scholarship" but even if I get that, it'll only tide me over for another 6 months tops. Thanks for reminding me. I just finished it and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Took me well over an hour to complete too, which is impressive for a demo (though most of that time was spent playing table tennis with my somewhat generic looking Chinese (if I got that right) hostess). The gameplay works and is a nice change from the other games in the series, although I noticed that it's way too easy to get headshots if you tap the Aim button before shooting. My only complaint is the same one I mentioned when the RgG4 demo came out - they still haven't updated their shitty graphics engine. I really hate that blurry look, and it doesn't help that the framerate takes a dive whenever there is an explosion or smoke on the screen.
Also, I hope Hana turns into a zombie so I can put a bullet through her head. It'd feel like I'm really killing Hirano Aya. ♥

On that note, Yakuza 4 is coming out in less than two weeks. I can't wait.

That's the only thing that makes the combat playable though, the controls are horrible. I know the series wasn't known for it's tight controls, but now that you're using them so much more this time around, it only exacerbates the stiff/awkward controls. The demo has effectively killed my hype for Binary Domain (hire some people from the US to work on those controls Nagoshi!).
