At minimum, I can think that the Tanizaki book "Diary of a Mad Old Man" is pretty goddamn incestuous, though it's daughter-in-law and father, so whatever. Fuck, even if we just limit it to the Otaku world, the geeky section(s) of Japan are much more into incest than the geeky sections of Western countries, so there is a disparity of some sort.

As for the reason? I think most listed here are legit. It pretty much guarantees a "clean", virginal heroine. It instantly gives an excuse for a long-term relationship, so both the MC doesn't have to work as hard and the heroine doesn't seem too slutty. It's taboo, so it makes for a pretty shocking read. It also fills into the whole Japanese adoration of childish women, as incest shit usually goes along with teenage-looking characters. At minimum, it's just a lazy variation on the typical school themed eroge/manga.

This is the point I'm trying to get across.
The incest related fetish we seen in western otaku is entirely caused by their exposure to Japanese otaku media.

Every country is going to have a small subset of people that have an incestuous fetish. Japan has -that- subset, and then an even larger one that mass produces media related to the subject, this was my justification for agreeing with the generalization about the whole of Japan. How many other countries have a consistent figure for the exportation of incest related goods?

I don't think that normal porn can really be used as evidence, while the incest-related category certainly exists, the west still tends to skirt around the subject, using step-children/siblings, and focusing on things like the woman in a given video simply shouting "Daddy" as opposed to the outright incestuous story development we can see in otaku media.
