Good day OC thread, I tried drawing. I never really got interested in trying to draw until now, and this is the result of my first try. Any tips on how to get better? I found drawing the hair difficult.

I haven't drawn anything since 2 weeks ago, lenovo sure is slow at processing orders. It will be another week before my order is shipped. I sold my x60t for a x201t. I m not some great artist, in fact I would say I m still in my early stages but my work gave me a budget of $2500 for a laptop. It is, but it's frustrating since I never get anything done. Since I can't draw in a traditional style without anything looking off, I have to use one where it doesn't matter too much if proportions and whatnot are a bit weird.

This may seem like generic advice but just keep working at it. People tell you it can take years to get good or even see some level of improvement (which is true) but something that worked out for me to achieve a decent level of drawing skill (I use this term loosely) was taking two full days that I had off and did nothing but draw. In the course of 48 hours I went from stick figures to something I would say is a decent level. Everyone progresses differently but i found that drawing as if I was cramming for a test worked much better than standard practice.

I can understand that I guess, although in 14 years my skill only went from stick figure to mediocre level. Then again, I normally only draw when I get an urge, which may be once a week, although I did draw once a day when I was still at square looking characters. Maybe try darker lines, and quicker strokes. For the hair, makes the lines start from the end of the hair, rather than in the middle. I usually use a larger canvas, so when you shrink it it looks cleaner. (I like using SAI, it's got nice sharp pen tool, and the airbrush which are the two I mainly use for line art, and the canvas is easy to rotate on there, so for long lines I rotate them into a position that feels comfortable to make a quick steady stroke.)

I make all of my stuff in FL Studio. It seems to be the most user-friendly program for beginners and you can make stuff really quickly in it (I think that in some other programs it's ridiculously difficult to just play a few notes). I guess it's the Windows of DAWs: Easy to get into and easy to use, even though it's not the most stable of DAWs and some functionality seems to be limited compared to other DAWs (it seems most other DAWs allow you to do much more with samples). If you're just starting out, I definitely recommend FL Studio.
