I really should have ordered this game.
How does it compare to say BB or GG or other fighting games in general?

The premise of so many characters as well as just as many unique Arcanas to choose from almost sounds like a recipe for disaster as far as balance goes.
But it doesn't look that bad, were they lucky?

meh, its alright I'd say its a slight step above a melty blood game. But just dont expect much depth and complexity. I spent most of the time trying the effects each arcana. But ultimately its a forgettable experience.

It is actually balanced, which is amazing considering how the game is layed out.
The Arcana system is unuiqe-ish and is actually great as it contributes to the customizability of the characters.
Each Arcana provides it's own additional moves, leaving all the moves of the original characters untouched, which is also great as it essentially leaves the character the same while it still alters how said character can be played.

The rooster is also kind of big, and yeah, there are plenty of Arcanas to boot.
The homing system is wonderful for the whole approach thing and contributes greatily in the way of choices available and true-choice and all that.

It is in essence, simply a great fighting game.

Elaborate on this "Arcana" thing for me some.

So basically before you start the match you can pick an Arcana to use with your character that adds extra moves to their moveset?

>> No.6808441

>>6808408
Adds a couple specials and changes properties of certain moves, like adds an auto-guard to 6/3C, slightly extra damage, or letting you triple jump, etc. They all give a couple slight general changes to a character along with adding special moves and a super.

So depending on what Arcana you choose it can change the character's playstyle to some degree?

>>6808408
There is a dedicated "Arcana" button, which you do all the Arcana moves with.
Each Arcana has a moveset of it's own, and is something you chose after you have chosen your character.
You can also check it out in the video at character selection here >>6808375

But some Arcanas also gives you passive abillities, such as a third jump, the abillity to hower etc etc.
And the Arcana's also have certain modifiers that affects meter gained, defence and offence.

>> No.6808471

Looks interesting, might download for 360

>> No.6808478

>>6808460
Basically yes. It's usually not a ton, but there are definitely certain arcanas that sync extremely well with certain characters by adding things that they lack, like strong pokes or projectiles. You see Arcanas picked equally often to counter the opponent's strengths, like taking Bhanri (adds clash frames) against an opponent weak to rushdowns.

Then again, we can't expect people in /jp/ to take fighting games seriously. People here are mostly Soku and Blazblue players, they have no idea what they're talking about at all.

P.S.: GG is deep and requires godly execution at high-level, but it is still not the paradigm of fighting games. No one here has ever played GG competitively offline and don't know how stupid some things in that game are, even after so many iterations.

Perfect. The PS2 version was a horrible failure that had bunked immensly.
It didn't even run above 10fps on average.
Now it's on PS3/360 however, which are far stronger consoles.

You should ask someone else, but yes I think so.
And I do think that all the "jailbreaking" will be undone in the process.
Though I really have no idea.

And yes you are supposed to be able to connect to PSN, and you are supposed to be able to play legit games.
If you are connected to the internet however, Sony may be able to see that wether or not you indulge in piracy somehow, I believe.
Though all that lies within their power as far as I understand, is a worst case scenario of being banned from PSN.
Though if I have also understood this correctly, Sony have never done this, but instead they have been fast with updating their own official firmware instead in order to disrupt further hacks in the future.

Though if any of this is incorrect, I would appreaciate someone to point it out.

>the company even has the means to irrevocably disable your console should it so wish," rendering affected PS3 consoles unusable, online and off. But will Sony ever use such a drastic measure? And if so, how will the hacker scene retaliate?

Really, I may be a bit of a coward, but is this actually safe? I won't be able to afford another PS3, and it still would be increadibly unfair, as I actually do buy the games.
And I will buy this game as well when it's localized, I will even buy the limited editions if they are available.
I would import the Japanese one as well, though I won't be able to afford buying the game twice, and I have calculated that I really do want a localized copy if/when available.
I also thinks it's a tad unfair, being forced to import the thing, as it is more expensive etc
It really would be awful, they wouldn't be able to get any more money out of me anyway, I buy all the games I want, because I want the physical copies.

A ban isn't neccissarily to brick the console.

Though I still really don't quite understand the logic.
Sure thing, it could act as some sort of punishment, you know, to scare people if it's scare tactics they want.

But in what way would either a PSN ban or a bricked console ever result in them gaining any money?
I mean
"Oh shit! I am banned from PSN and can no longer play online! Now I must go to the store and buy all those games, I won't be able to play online with!"
Or "Wow!? They really banned me! Now I really must get those PSN games I always wanted now when I can't download them. Tough luck! Can't connect to PSN in order to buy them!"
And well, i believe it's not hard to immagine how something extreme as a bricked console wouldn't result in them gaining any money.

That is of course, unless they expect people to buy entire new consoles. But really, I do believe they would need to be a bit realistic, no one would do that, especially not after still being hurt from their "attack".

It might as well be cheaper to simply import AH3 now for $100, and then re-buy the game yet again when it comes here for yet another $100.

As for myself that's not something I can do.
I had immense luck in managing to get a PS3 in the first place, but other than that it's already hard to break even with food and housing and other necessities.
Buying games is already is already pushing it, and I have no real buffer.
I can't buy a game twice, especially not limited editions.

Yet I am going to buy the game when it is released here.

Key config is:
Coin/Service - F1/F2
Test - F12

P1:
A - Z
B - X
C - C
D - A
E - D
Start - 1
Up/Down/Left/Right: Arrow keys

P2:
A - ,
B - .
C - /
D - k
E - ;
Start - 0
Up/Down/Left/Right - 8/2/4/6 on the numpad

If you want to modify the keys, open the EXE in a hex editor and go to 13F852 for player 1 and 13F85D for player 2. Look at the list of virtual-key codes here to figure out what keys to replace: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd375731(v=vs.85).aspx

If someone wants to make it so the direction keys are toggled instead of held for the menus or fix the system configuration problem, go ahead. I think I'm not going to mess with it anymore.

controls don't work well. arrows act as held instead of pressed on select screen and in menus, attack buttons only act as pressed, never as held within the match so you can't do moves etc. it's like they got inverted.

it's impossible to save the settings. press f12 to access it, but after you press save nothing happens and everything resets.

wrong resolution, it's set to 640x480, but that's including windows's borders so the actual view screen is smaller and image gets blurry.

and i guess an optional full screen would be nice.

I did all of the reverse engineering work on Win7 64bit, so I know it works there.

About the random hangs: It's either a problem with your computer or it's one of the loops the game has. There are a few loops with many iterations that have a 2 second pause in between them when you start the game. I fixed everything I could see when I ran it but I can't guarantee it was everything.

Is it possible to make a config menu for AH3 that pops up when you start the game? Like the one Melty Blood Act Cadenza has?

That'd be pretty useful.

>> No.6825509

The press version will check if you've already sent the key that is being held and if you have, it will not send the command again until you release it. The no-press version will let you send the command for as long as the key is pressed. You'll see why I originally made it only send the command once. I don't know what to do about that so I'll leave it up to someone with experience in writing inputs.

The direction keys will only register once per press out of battle so you can easily select things now. The only exception I am aware of is the operator's menu because that doesn't get detected with the method I'm using.

This version also includes configuration saving/loading (doesn't work for high scores, bookkeeping, or time adjustment and I have no plans of including those). Saves get stored in system.dat which will only be created once you exit the operator's menu which can be accessed by pressing F12.

http://www.mediafire.com/?b0o08wsgg3ivc6y

You can ignore the rest of this post if you don't care about programming stuff.

I have no experience with writing inputs so if someone familiar with that kind of stuff wants to write their own input system, here's the info you'll need:
These addresses (all hardcoded in the EXE so you shouldn't need to worry about randomization) are all dwords which store the control information. Bottom 2 bytes are for P1 and top 2 bytes are for P2. 3C46ED4, 3C46ED8, 3C46EDC, 3C46EE0, 3C46EE4, 3C46EE8

I write the control into each of them but it's not necessary. You will have to play around with that if you want something more perfect.

Here are the button masks:
0001 B
0002 A
0004 R
0008 L
0010 D
0020 U
0040 Test
0080 Start

0400 Unused?
0800 Unused?
1000 Unused?
2000 E
4000 D
8000 C

Hopefully this is enough info to get someone started on a proper input system.
