That place is even harder to keep together because it's far too divided to be of use. Even if all of /jp/ moved there it'd still be about as quick and exciting as tectonic plate movement because /jp/'s native population is too small to fill up like 15 boards, and without ads or word of mouth etc no one knows TC exists, and strangers who stumble on it wouldn't stay because it's a total ghost town. Last year I tried using the place quite a bit and some of my responses took months to get replies. Months.

I think there are two main problems with creating an alternative to /jp/. The most obvious point that some might consider a pro is that it's just not well known enough as 4chan. Sure, it means we wouldn't get less 'normalfags' but I think a board would definitely need new traffic to keep certain things 'fresh'. It would also help avoid everybody getting to know each other. Not that I have anything against /jp/ers who enjoy HotGlue and IRC channels, I think the majority of posters should be genuinely anonymous. For me, this creates the best kind of security I need, knowing that there are like minded people I can post with without necessarily knowing or trying to guess who posted what.

My second point is that on 4chan, our main otaku culture boards are /a/ and /jp/. I've seen other sites having too many boards. As they aim to have the entire site about otaku culture, they have too many subsections such as /vn/, /fig/, /con/, /;_;/. These subsections are too small with too few posters. /jp/ is already a slow board. To divide /jp/ so much is not in anybody's interests. Dividing /jp/ up would make each subsection too small and each subsection would have the problem I mention in point one. I wouldn't want a board like /cgl/ where so many people know one another and they just talk about people they know.

I think /jp/ has the perfect mixture of otaku subjects. Anime and manga is too popular so they have their own board. We only need one main thread for figurines, Comiket, OC, 'What VN are you reading now?', VN releases, /jp/ radio, and a couple of threads for various multiplayer games. That fills up only one page on /jp/. There's no reason to split that up.

If /jp/ gets deleted, then obviously /a/ would be raped by our threads. And even more than in past, due to the population of 4chan getting bigger all the time.
I'm pretty sure that's the reason why /jp/ still exists.
