I just use VLC.
It plays music and it doesn't have to look pretty because it's minimized 99% of the time.

I use foobar2000 in a VM to convert all the music I download to glorious FLAC files with Replaygain which I then listen to on glorious mpd.

Well it would come down to how many playlists and mods you have loaded. Same way how winamp consumes less depending on how simple your skin is.

Granted, winamp was the best (if not the single usable) media player 10 years ago. The problem is they didn't manage to evolve it past that ever since. It's just gotten incredibly obsolete and at the same time bloated with useless shit.

Im rather fond of using the spectrogram every now and then. I like it better than any visualization winamp ever came up with. Its a more accurate and detailed visual of the sound. Also when I use it i specifically turn it on to look at, not just make my desktop look cool.

Can you really play PSF files with foobar? I haven't been able to find any plugins for it.

And while I do have foobar, and use it from time to time, there isn't really anything my Winamp cannot do that it can do at the moment, thus I generally use winamp due to being slightly slimmer on both memory and load times.

At the risk of sound like an idiot, I didn't bother with foobar because I just couldn't get it look how I wanted. I did appreciate the features, it was just a pain in the ass to make it look nice.

I'm seriously surprised no one's made some sort of out-of-the-box installer.
