The meta world is not Battler's construction, it's Bern and Lambdadeltas.

Umineko constantly drives in the idea that fantasy, whether real or fake, is very often derived from real life "vessels". Real witches eat up illusions and fantasies and turn them into something real, but only vaguely real, that's what they do.

How does it make sense that a fucking cake can make Beatrice a real witch? Or stop her being one? Misery here is really Yasu all along, but she got too thin to be Beato so had to fatten up, but if she eats too much cake she won't be able to fit in the dress!!!11

Either Lambda made the "figment" Beatrice into a real witch who could operate on the meta plane, or they found the real Yasu/Yasu's soul and brought her into Battler's delusion. This could be something to do with why Battler couldn't "recreate" Beatrice outright. If it was all his delusion from the start, why would he have trouble doing this? After all, where else did Beato come from?

Battler did not "create" the Endless Witch Beatrice, it was Lambda.

Of course Battler originally "created" the Meta plane since he made the materials, but he didn't construct it.

The problem with I ALWAYS KNEW NONE OF META WAS REAL means that nothing except the ??? at the end of Episode 8 is real. And doesn't explain most of what happened at all. Just dismissing what the meta characters say as BS is lazy writing.

Higurashi Rei was basically a spin-off that didn't have any impact on the story.

The memory thing kind of makes sense. Like the way during certain scenes, we see that lower jaw flare up to shock us.

What is that jaw? It's Maria's jaw that Battler would have heard about from the report.

It's all very Donnie Darko.

However I think the Meta world is based on Battler's memories rather than just that. Too much stuff doesn't make sense otherwise.

It's not just because I really love Higurashi and its characters but it's just.. a pointless extra to me.
Battler is using writing to remember the truth and clear his memories, he adds in witches, meta world and extremely gory and mysterious murders either to spice things up or because his subconscious was that wounded, it's ok.
But while disproving the whole "miracles, oyashiro-sama and kakera-travelling rika" would make sense, there's no point on denying the murders took place and the characters existed. I'd rather read a "Hinamizawa massacre happened just as much as Rokkenjima massacre and that's where Battler found his inspiration" solution rather than "nothing ever happened, all those characters weren't real, sucks to be a reader".

The problem I have with this ending is it fucks everyone over. We do not get a resolution, they do not get development for the culprit, every red truth was as good as nothing. As for the meta world, all of the characters who everyone liked, all the ones who were developed on a lot turned out to be nothing more than a fictional tool to help some dumbass amnesiac remember things. To top things off Higurashi was fiction too, Ryukishi really had to cheapen all of his characters and ideas which used to be considered great stuff. All that happened this episode was Ryukishi taking a shit on his entire fanbase, who paid him.

Trick path gives you Ange figuring out that Amakusa and Okonagi are actually plotting with the Sumaderas to take out both Ange and Kasumi together at once, shoots both Kawabata and Amakusa, and proceeds to go to the island to find out the truth.
Good end in magic path is that Ange gives everything up in Okonogi's hand, gives up the truth and goes on to write fantasy stories.

With consideration to the fact that Higurashi is a novel in Battler's world in the same vein that Umineko's episodes are, there isn't really anything which explicitly denies the potential reality of the events of the episodes occurring in their own little universe separate from that of Old Battler's; much like Higurashi's world was considered separate to either of them initially by being considered a book in this universe. So, a lot of people believe that, somehow, the ???? is the OMG TRUE LOLOLOL end and we're all supposed to worship and accept it.

We got this ending by picking MAGIC. So, basically, how can we take any of this serious? It's eating itself.

The game fucks you every way you go. If you pick MAGIC, you get a retarded ending that, as people point out here, doesn't even work. It says that it's all fake, and yet that directly contradicts the tea party, making the tea party a writing mistake of Ryukichi IF the ???? is supposed to be true. Battler has to be completely wrong in the ???? for the entire thing to work.

On the other hand, if you chose trick (which SHOULD lead you to something like the ????, just better explained) you...don't go anywhere, and get a magic person appearing.

The only real choice in the game not only doesn't matter, it makes you get the OPPOSITE of what you picked, assuming ???? is true.


Conclusion:
???? is bullshit either way. It is bullshit on a level of bullshit that is bullshitting bulls that are shitting on bulls which are shat out by giant bulls.
R07 wanted to troll with a "choice" like this and writing ???? that way. Honestly?

With the clues we have, the only explaination for ???? is this:

If you were wise enough to recognize that Eps 1-4 were not actually depicting the REAL events that took place on Rokkenjima, you could probably comprehend that Rudolph, and Kyrie especially, were dangerous. If you realize Rudolph and Kyrie were the killers, the next step is to wonder if Battler knew or not, and if he helped them.

I can't really say I thought that far down the line back after Ep 4, but I DID correctly put a strong suspicion on Kyrie, and surmise the basics of Yasu's existence (I was on the 'Rudolph was the father' boat, but I suppose that's just because I didn't want to believe that Kinzo would have a daughter with his daughter...).
