If you are a USA citizen, you cannot escape modernized laws that the Republicans changed during the Bush administration. A number of homeland security laws now apply to USA citizens even if they are outside the USA. For example, usa age-limit laws apply to you in countries where under-18 sex is legal. Posession of loli doujins outside of the USA by USA citizens is illegal and possibly a felony if the federal prosecutor assigned that case is intolerant. It's amazing how "homeland security" is applied as an excuse to create laws that don't seem related to either the homeland or security. Give the gov't a law/statute/treaty that can be misapplied, and they will use it to obtain unintended consequences.

I look forward to the gov't enforcing ACTA using either the PC disabling feature or the hard drive erasing feature built-into the SandyBridge processors. It can be triggered via internet, wireless, or G3 cellphone tower coverage so basically it is unescapable unless all your PC are prior to Nehalem. Countries like China are making their own versions of CPU due to the backdoor features in USA chips. Sandy Bridge is already shipping now and will replace Nehalem....

The next time the republicans get into power, we will see the backdoor gov't feature put into hard drives I bet. Bush administration wanted it but the drive makers managed to hold it off.

Those features are only for the vPro line which are meant for ENTERPRISE usage. It's also perfectly possible to disable them using a jumper on the motherboard. After looking at the documentation, they're more harmless than one would think, however I still have no need to buy a CPU+mobo which has such features.

As for ACTA, not everybody lives in the US. I'm happy to live in a country that has no involvement with it, and with any luck, things will keep on like this for at least some 15-20 years. I'm more worried about my comrades living in affected countries.
