Yes. For the game torrent, just get either the runes or the romanized title, then type that into Google with 'hongfire' on the end. Hongfire has most VN torrents. For the obscure as fuck shit, you may need to use Japanese P2P programs, such as Perfect Dark.

Yes, I will probably buy some after trying a few out. Is there a site that you would suggest? I try to allot myself 300 per month for anime, manga, PSP imports, figures, ect. are they expensive enough that I'd need to re-work this budget?

Depends, they are usually 40-50€ if they are new and they are expected to drop.
VNs from japan are on the 60-80+transpot costs, so only buy the ones you like.

The official releases are tend to be pretty slow, and if you filter out the shitty ones it probably comes to 2-3 per year worth buying. Unless you want to be an upstanding fellow and import the games for the fan-translated ones as well (the community these days honestly been kind of a joke, as these days I don't think even most of the translators own the original games)

The only notable one that isn't available elsewhere is Gift, which hopefully if more people buy might encourage Moonstone to partner up with Mangagamer and release stuff like DokoIku.

Sadly not. They firstly carry the whole 'lol animu manchild' with them, as well as them being a stupidly vague genre that most people would just stray away and never try. I'm sure a lot of people WOULD enjoy them if they read them, but alas, we can't force people, regardless of advertising, which will only tempt those who are partially interested.

But hey, look at Recettear it isn't a visual novel, but it sure did sell a lot, and it was from Comiket, with the Japanese art and shit, seeing as THAT was commercially successful on Steam, it gives hope for visual novels coming to light some day on Steam. I think another big factor is that it's just risky business, it could seriously fail if not gone about properly.

Steam is in a position where they can dominate all ddl services for games, and even if it's just testing the water with a few big releases, I feel it'd be a low risk venture to see where the affairs stand.

Well, you seem to like charts, so have another one. This is the opinion of someone from the English VN community (it was Asceai's if I remember correctly), and some people may disagree with it. Also, some titles have been translated since it was posted.

I'd say most are closer to 20 hours or so for a couple of routes with ones that short being outliers. Of course we also have a couple translated on the other side with average reading time being close to 50 hours.

You've really read the shorter ones.
VNs are usually between 20-30 for medium ones to 40-50 in some rare cases.
Try something like Plaretarian or Kikougai, they're pretty short, then you could try tsukihime and ever17, a lot longer but not as massive as, say, Fate stay night or clannad.
