Speak for yourself. The majority of girls play BL and otome games.
I got into normal VNs and eroge first, so BL/otome isn't very appealing, but there are a few exceptions.

I met this one pretty cool girl who played Ever 17, Symphonic rain, Kira Kira, Cross channel, Planetarium, and a few others.

She looked like some kind of cross between a shoggoth and a squirrel though.

I've seen one or two otome games that I could see myself liking, but most of it seems to be twee wish fulfillment bullshit (admittedly, Starry Sky has given me a bad first impression of the genre).

I couldn't play through Starry Sky either. The only otome games I really enjoyed were Tokimemo 1st Love and Tokimemo 3rd Story. I played a few other in Japanese, but they were inherently terrible. Otome isn't a very good genre to begin with.

Otome games are actually for guys who want to be the little girl.
