I've had a similar situation. Marisa was my favorite until I saw her acting like a coward in SSiB.

Sakuya, Remilia and Reimu also lost but at least they put up a fight. (They probably could have won if they were serious.) But Marisa just got her ass handed to her. Plus she was whining the whole time like a scared little girl.

Gensokyo was like this since the first game. In one bad end, Marisa would tie Reimu up to a cross and set it on fire. Get a grip. This isn't like some K-ON game where cute girls do cute things. It's a game that actually has some content. Even if there's no real plot, it's still interesting. It's not a good game for you, anonymous. Forget about Touhou altogether, and find another game.

Really? You really expected a story about a convict stealing the moon and attempting to seal the distance between the moon and earth forever to be completely innocent? My perception of Gensoukyou isn't GRIMDARK, but there's at least a small amount of grit in there, guy. Marisa isn't about to invite Reimu over for a tea party in the middle of a crisis like that, fool.

While the OP is likely either copypasta or an original troll, I actually had a somewhat similar experience after installing translation patches. Marisa's routes usually have the most bearable dialogue because there's occasionally some decently funny banter in there, but the dialogue for Reimu's routes (and similarly, for pretty much all tertiary player character except possibly Sanae) is downright offensively terrible; all she does is bitch and moan in an extremely unfunny manner. Come to think of it, the only "official" instance of Touhou writing I've actually enjoyed was Inaba of the Moon and Inaba of the Earth.

The translation patches for the older games really need to be updated.

You mean you enjoyed Reisen gets constantly abused: the manga, but not the lighthearted banter between the characters in the games?

I would enjoy the banter, were it actually lighthearted (which it is, in some cases, namely a few of Marisa's routes). However, reading Reimu's lines is actually more like watching some frustrated middle management guy passive-aggressively lashing out at his subordinates (for lack of a better analogy) - it's boring and annoying to begin with and after about five minutes, you just want to punch the guy in the face.

Also, regarding Inaba & Inaba, I actually didn't enjoy the instances of Reisen getting abused (because physical violence as a punchline is shitty and overused, same thing with "HAHA OH MAN SAKUYA THREW A KNIFE AT MEILING AGAIN DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING"), but there were definitely some decent jokes in there, at least in my opinion.

This is what makes Marisa one of my top favorites, her brash, rude, sassy "I don't give a fuck" attitude.
She's just that kind of cute tomboy, I like it.

Also, put yourself in Reimu's shoes for a bit. Every time you start taking it easy, some jerk Youkai goes and starts an incident you can't ignore. Of course you'd eventually get a bit worn and sarcastic.

I can see the reason for Reimu being jaded perfectly fine, it's just that I feel she could be jaded and amusing at the same time.

I'm willing to concede that I may just not remember the funny parts in Reimu's routes, but I do know that overall, they've left a lasting bad impression on me. I'm also not a terribly big fan of Reimu's playing style, though, so that may have contributed to my frustration.
