My problem with 4chan isn't its popularity growing or waning, it's that much of it has lost the identity that it held for most of its life and what it was fucking built to be, as a nerd sanctuary.

The mods and moot are all still nerdy/geeky as fuck; they need to decide whether to stand up for people like us or to just bend over and take it in the ass from countless posers and bandwagoners, like every other big, dumbed down mainstream site. If moot does nothing, then at this pace most of 4chan will look like Yahoo Answers and Youtube comments (as if /b/ and several other boards don't look like such already). I'm just hoping that whenever can.vas finally gets off the ground all the normalfag scum will flock there.

Yeah 4chan is well on it's way to becoming that. I would say that /jp/ here is one of the only good places left on this site besides even smaller, slower boards for special interests. We should have a whole one board website called jpchan or something. Compared to other boards the spam and normal fag count are not that bad. After all most of them just fail because a lot of trolling attempts that don't involve spamming a single thing a million times just don't work here. Since we don't really care what anyone outside of here cares about what a lot of do and like they just get bored and leave. I'm just happy that at least /jp/ isn't gone yet or completely spammed to hell.

He is aware that 4chan has some really shitty parts and reputation and about a year ago tried to stymie that by introducing some boards that could spur some productive discussion, such as /sci/, /lit/ and /adv/. It seems to be of little use though, the real problem is /b/.

With such a large populace clinging to his every word, he's very careful to try to say as trivial and inoffensive things as possible these days. After all, if he flat out told /b/ that he hated them, then there would be open revolt; there already was some talk going of ddos'ing 4chan over the puddy thing (if they didn't actually start doing that). /b/ is like owning a really shitty dog, you can't just go taunt it or it will bite back, and yet you can't let it off the leash either, and if you put it down then 4chan goes with it.

Just for comparison /jp/ gets I think like 30-40,000 posts per day now. Used to be way less but for one reason or another we've grown.

Anyone who has been around awhile should be able to recognize the gradual decline in quality that has occurred over time. 4chan was never good, but the site-wide quality has only gotten worse over time.
