It's not really that bad. I didn't do it when I tried once just now, but I died much more times to doing stupid stuff and being at the top of the screen when enemies spawn than because of anything focus-related. (It's been a while since I've done MoF normal.)
Hell, I even captured Kanako's Mountain of Faith final spellcard with no focused movement. It's almost easier than doing it with focus, on Normal.
Heaven's Stream was pretty problematic, though.
