I'm pretty sure he can beat all his own games on any mode no sweat. It's not like he's the very best since he is constantly trying out new stuff instead of focusing on one game continually, but he's probably better than >99% of other Touhou players out there.

After all, he knows every single pattern... just by thinking them up he can probably already see the techniques needed to survive the cards. He can't just put patterns in and go "lol I unno I guess this is good enough" because if he just guesses, and winds up putting in something literally impossible to survive, no one would trust him again... so, he has to go play-test every single pattern himself, to make sure that they were even doable to begin with. Seeing some of the patterns that he green-lights, he MUST be very very good.

I'm betting that his strategy for play testing is that he's actually sober on Lunatic, and probably gets shit faced for Easy, and has the in-betweens for Normal/Hard.

The individual we know as "ZUN" is a doll made by Alice. Marisa codes the Touhou games based on the patterns she steals during her incident-solving adventures in Gensokyo, and hands the finished product to Alice so that she can sell it using the ZUN-doll. Have you ever wondered why Marisa shows up so many times in game icons? She's the coder, that's why.

The doll is very skilled in Touhou games because that's just how dexterous Alice is, she can control the ZUN-doll to such an extent that she can clear the games on Lunatic through it.

A game developer should know that his game is possible to beat on any difficulty, because it would piss people off if it turns out to be impossible. And in order to know that the game can be beat, he has to either have beat it himself, or know of a certain way to beat it.

ZUN really does drink, and he drinks quite a lot actually. It's debatable whether his favorite activity is making Touhou or drinking beer. See this? He's in a beer brewery. He's also made his own custom brews for himself too on occasion, because he likes it that much. Only hardcore beer aficionados actually make their own beer, because they want to try to make a beer that tastes perfect to them (or just to see if they can even do it, or to make a wildly experimental beer to see how it tastes).

ZUN and Yukari used to make the games together. Yukari would feed him details which he would use to create the story. However, recently I believe ZUN has been working alone. Yukari has stopped visiting him, for some reason.

Although admittedly I thought Double Spoiler and Fairy Wars were actually very good games.. they just weren't Touhou 13. There's an infinitesimal variety of possible Touhous out there and clearly ZUN isn't afraid to cross boundaries and make up some shit to get something new.

I like that idea a lot, but I also liked IN's system of being able to unlock the pairs as separate playable chars. I'm not sure which I'd prefer.
