Since moot doesn't give a shit about this board I'm all for community based moderation. If we see threads that don't belong here we should politely send them the message that such threads aren't appreciated here. (The best method for sending them a message is debatable.) But this quality control guy goes around telling law abiding citizens that their threads are bad. That's not our job, nor is it the job of a janitor. The only people who have the authority to decide what belongs is the moderators and admins. Unless the thread is breaking a rule, you have no right to stop it both morally and legally.

The thing with obviously bad / boring threads like that is that if they remain boring, they will just die on their own.

Oftentimes threads on /jp/ evolve and can turn very interesting, because we actually sometimes have conversation here, instead of posting mfw and doubles half the time.

However if you go into a bad thread just to say it's bad, you are fucking asking for a response from the OP defending it, or even from some random passerby who stopped to shit on the shitposter and thus elicit a chain reaction of people both defending what they really believe is the proper course of action to take.

If you see a bad thread just either ignore it if it belongs here, or if it doesn't just fucking report and hide it. Don't post in it to say reported, don't give anyone any ammo, just tag it and let it rot in peace, for within a couple hours (sometimes way less) it'll probably get cleaned up by a passing janitor or meido anyway, so it does not fucking matter what you said in that thread.

The only reason I'm even posting this to begin with is because this is a specific meta thread on the subject and I'm hoping at least one person is fucking listening.

There was a couple-weeks period where Quality Control specifically stopped posting just to see what would happen and you know what? Basically nothing changed. Things didn't get better OR worse, in fact the only thing that got better was people not constantly bitching about QC's bitching.

I agree with most of the things you've said but it's debatable whether ignoring a thread completely or telling someone they're not wanted works. The former would work in an ideal scenario but there's always 1 or 2 idiots who respond to something giving it enough fuel to propagate for another day. Even with the 4chan filter, people still can't ignore threads they don't like.

Also, there's no point in not bumping this thread. I'm hoping we can reason with them. If nothing has changed by the end of this thread at least we can say we've tried.

I think one of the real issues is that QC feels that there is way too much useless Touhou posting on the board. What I don't think he realizes is that you will always get that because it's the nature of Touhou. Touhou has a very wide variety of related entertainment.. sometimes people want to talk about the games in general, a specific game, doujin games, a specific character, a set of characters, powerlevels (ugh), or they just want to see/share some awesome art of one of their favorite chars. People are inherently too lazy to sift through a bunch of posts they're not interested in if Touhou got lumped into one giant general thread, and even so a general Touhou thread would probably half of the time just get swamped with someone deciding to do an imagedump etc.. there's just too many different pursuits of Touhou to easily contain it (hence 2chan just flat out made a board for it).

Imo the ARE YOU A WIZARD way to get Touhou organized and hence not annoy people uninterested in the topic, is to have a few derivative topics but not a general one.

tl;dr version

Most of the cause of bitching over "bad posts" on /jp/ is that it's a bunch of unorganized Touhou threads. However, the nature of Touhou's hugely varied fandom makes it basically impossible for us all to converge on a Touhou General.

So, to maybe attempt to organize it, instead of a single meta-general Touhou thread (impossible), we could try making several subtopic threads, as I outlined in the other post. It could be very hard getting the system working, but if it does it could be very beneficial for /jp/.
