The story in oblivion is just so shitty though. Especially since you have major immersion breakers like the entire imperial army, all the battlemages, etc, NOT DOING JACK SHIT.

I mean, the imperial battlemage takes power after the emperor's assassination...and guess what...HE DOES NOTHING. Meanwhile an escaped prisoner has to battle the immortal hordes of daedra to save the day. Oh god, what.

Combat is so bland as well. Every battle is simply blocking, waiting for the AI to attack, and then attacking once and then blocking immediately afterwards. Rinse and repeat. No strategy or anything.

Magic is broken, almost all spells have massive failure rates and the only way to get enough mana to cast anything other than cantrips is to play a high elf and load up on all the mana boosts you can.

And the leveling system is a pile of shit.

Wrong. Magic is broken in the opposite way: Any character with access to the mage's guild spell maker will be infinitely better then characters without. The amount of pure bullshit you can launch from your fingers is just silly.

I... don't think I can properly comment on how wrong this is.
Sure there are some crazy combatspells you don't ever have to bother with that you will need some crazy stats for, but that is far from the norm. (and they aren't even that good).

Sure this works (if you are good at blocking, or have armor/hp), so I won't say it doesn't work.
I have never played like that though other than the time I chose the to play the tank warrior archtype.
You can dodge the attacks you know, by running a lot. You can jump a lot and use ranged attacks from behind obstacles. You can use lockdown spells or venoms such as paralysis.
And sure you can find that bland, and I won't say the gameplay is marvelous in anyway. But it sure is more than simply blocking, you can easily switch out the blocks for whatever other maneuver/move is viable.

Just play the side quests.
The most fun lies in exploring and finding out about and falling into all the other stuff that's going on, and resolving all of those quests.
And there are also some increadible easter eggs in the thiefs guild quests.

If you remove level scaling the game really isn't as bad as people make it out to be. If you can enjoy Elona or something, then you should be able to enjoy this as well.
But I do hope they somewhat reverts a few things back to more how it was in morrowind for tes5.

Like for example, yukari has never been canonically drawn by zun with tits flat as a board actually, and yet one of the first things fans think of with yukari is.

Although that game took gameplay first also, the fighting game format is really easy to work into a vn, and the competitive aspect means that the game stands on its own.

Well I was refering to TES's open world in general. The way you can find items in every town and how the non-playable characters have depth to them. Map exploration in Zelda is cutting grass and finding rupees. In TES's you can collect grass and sell it. Not to mention the fact that there's nothing to buy in Zelda. There's really no comparison between them.

What Zelda does better is story, combat and Metroidvania dungeons. Other than that, they're apples and oranges. I was just suggesting to take what's good from both franchises and create something god tier.

Many great, game-changing mods were released, changing forever the game, adding so much more to gameplay, atmosphere, graphics and realism.
The second game, Clear Sky, wasn't great, but the last one, Call of Prypiat, is the best of them all, concentrating the devs' knowledge of their apst mistakes and what they learned of mods released for the game.
1-2 little mods, and it looks just great.

That wouldn't happen in realism mods, where a shot to the leg cripples you good, a shot to the arm ruins your aim, and 2-3 shots to the torso can outright kill you.
Recovering from heavy wounds requires limping back to a safe place, using bandages to slow down the bleeding and medkits to keep you alive on your way, finding a medic, and more often than not, a good night of rest.
Try carrying too much weight when not completely rested, and you're in for wounds opening again and bleeding FAST.

All of this forces you to play differently. Economy changes a lot aswell. Making money is hard.
The game becomes radically different.

They're the kind of mods that had me install the game again after I had finshed it and thrown it in a dusty corner.
Call of Prypiat concentrated many great hings from mods into a bug free, well polished package, and the devs made it easier to mod than it's predecessors.
A great game, easy too grab through torrent if you want to give it a try. Find some mods for it, and you'll forget unpatched Shadow of Chernobyl very fast.

And if you were hunted by monsters it was nice how they interacted with the cities.

And one more thing.
If they fix this in Skyrim again, then they may possibly re-implement levitate, the jump spells, and all those other maneuver spells that would break Oblivion.
