Upload/request music using your browser: http://skully.hopto.org

Listen to the stream using your music player: http://skully.hopto.org:8000
If it lags/fails, please connect manually to one of the relays in the second post.

FAQ: http://skully.hopto.org/playing.php?page=faq

IRC: irc.rizon.net #jp-radio

If the stream is full, please connect to one of the relay servers.
More information about the stream is in the second post.

As of right now, it's possible to upload both MP3 and OGG files, but keep in mind OGG files do not properly display their tags on the site. This means that it'd be best to remove any Japanese from an OGG file before uploading it, if possible.

As always, feedback is always appreciated. Post any error messages you get, post opinions, suggestions, whatever.

Main server holds 7 users. There are a number of relay servers up that automatically redirect you when the main server is full, so don't worry. If you are not automatically redirected, you can manually connect to them. There's a page on the main site to check what relays are currently up.

Here's a list of the currently known relay servers:

http://hentai.student.utwente.nl:8000 (hosted by leofox!tkMd2Fh4DM)
http://www.yukkurishiteitte.net:8000 (hosted by Kaguya is a !BEaRD8DGAI)

http://home.kamokow.com:8000 (hosted by Anonymous)
http://kaguya.eientei.com:8000 (hosted by Anonymous)
http://loadsoffun.no-ip.org:8001 (hosted by loads_of_fun)
http://tea.warosu.org:8000 (hosted by Anonymous)
http://yamaxanadu.tarball.us:8000 (hosted by Anonymous)
http://pa.ntsu.info:8000/jp.mp3 (hosted by Anonymous)
http://shoutcast1.rootnode.net:1100/jpradio (hosted by Relay 'Server' Guy)

You can still submit logo's for the website. Make sure it's 300x100 and I'll make sure it's in the rotation. Lets see some of that /jp/ creativity.

Also, if you'd like to join our Skype chatroom, you can search for Jaypee Radio. Once you add that account, you should be accepted to the chatroom shortly. It may also be a nice idea to let us know in the thread that you've added the radio account, so we can get to your request faster.

/jp/ Radio is created for /jp/, by /jp/. If you guys have any questions whatsoever, feel free to ask them in this thread.

Take it easy, Anon.
Enjoy the stream!

While we appreciate your willingness to contribute songs to the station, we don't really do bulk uploads. We just finished clearing up a lot of unnecessary space, and we're still actually in the process of deleting a large list of duplicate songs.

We don't do bulk uploads for a few reasons:

1. We have limited space

2. Sometimes that leads to doubles that would have normally been caught if manually uploaded (considering those are Vocaloid songs, this is very likely, even though they're remastered versions of them)

3. If we provide the service, others will want to join in, which brings us back to the first problem

4. High chance of a lot of the songs being forgotten. You remember a song easier when you upload it yourself, and you're more likely to actually request it than to leave it lonely on server as a song that's rarely ever picked by SAM and never requested

Really, I appreciate the work you went through for these. I'm sorry I have to refuse the bulk upload after you went through editing them so much, but I hope you understand why we can't really do this for you.

We realize uploading songs individually can be tiring, but it's there to make sure you only upload what you really want to hear most, and what you really feel we'll enjoy most.

I'll upload a few of my personal favorites from the albums manually, like any other user, but I won't bulk upload.

Hey relaybros, I'm curious. Where do you get so much bandwidth from? And how many $ do you spend on it? I wouldn't mind some for myself.

>> No.6569753

>>6569732

I was sort of curious about the bandwidth and storage requirements involved in this myself, and what kind of hardware the main box has.

Is the main server just a box in some guy's apartment?

>> No.6569828

>>6569753
Yeah, pyonta-kun runs everything and has a few slots reserved for relays. None of us peasants directly connects to pyonta-kun.

As for bandwidth, the stream streams at 128kbps, or 16KB/s. So:
960KB per minute
57600KB, or 56.25MB per hour
1350MB, or 1.35GB a day to relay ONE slot for 24 hours. The relays usually have >5 at any given time, and >10 at certain times. So 8-14GB a day.

So be extra thankful to your relaybros!

>> No.6569858

>>6569732
The stream is 128kbps (16 kB/s) you just need as much bandwidth as you want slots. Depending on what your connection is like you can usually run a relay from your home.

>>6569753
For hosting a relay you just need the bandwidth and 5 mbs for the server/relay software.

As for a main server, you would need space for all the songs on top of relay requirements (±50 mbs depending on *how* you want to do it). AFAIK the main box is just spair comp at Pyonta's place. (And since it does not have very many slots (hence the relay requirement) it is probably run off a normal connection.)

>> No.6569895

>>6569858
>you would need space for all the songs

I was wondering how much that actually is.

And in any case if he can host anything at all off his home connection he's miles beyond my shitty backwater ADSL connection.

Well 128kbps for T is >>6569828 Just see how many hours of stuff you have (tho it will probably be higher quality) with the size of modern HDDs it is really not an issue.

Just run a speed test to see how much upload you have. The main stream only has like 10 slots (160 kB/s). Most can do at least 100. All you really need is a few for relays. (And you can use voice servers (vent, TS, ect) as relays as well if you know of one.)

Yeah, I feel the same way. I like listening to my own collection, but sometimes it's nice to actually have a station playing some different stuff. Even if there are a few songs I don't like, I end up bumping into quite a few songs I DO like and wouldn't have heard otherwise.

And most of the time, if I don't like the song, it's at least fine for me to just listen to as I take it easy during my day. Even if it's not my personal library, I still like listening to it.
