Quality was always a bit spotty. Figures were poorly modeled, painted or otherwise looked ugly. They've increased the quality of everything recently so I have no real problems with their newer products.

I had the same idea, checked it out a bit in my area but when it come to stuff like this I tend to be a little bit perfectionist...
I was planning on making one similar to the ones stores use with integrated lighting on each shelf cause those look awesome but cost ~1000$+.

Griffon seems to have improved, but damn, what's up with the folds? Specifically the bulge below her left hand makes it seem like she has a third boob there. And how about that little ridge under the bulge? Makes Yukari look like a trap. Otherwise the figure looks great, and perhaps it's just the lighting which over-emphasizes the folds.

I myself did not like Koto marisa. They got the face all wrong, the shoes wrong, she was wearing biker gloves, it has a gimmicky light on it, and the pose looked like she was getting ready to get fucked.

Goko marisa has perfect face, although the broom doesnt look as good. Griffon has been making decent figs lately though, I put off from buying griffon marisa because of quality too, but keine and mokou are looking nice so far, gonna have to wait and see pictures from people that actually own them first to confirm that though.

Griffon faces usually look as if they have downs. Wave sucks. OrchidSeed are never 1:1 with their preview shots. Kaiyodo is revoltech "we are almost figures" shit. Megahouse is overpriced.

Even GSC has outclassed Kotobukiya in recent years.

They all have their faults, not just Griffon. I can't find any faults in GSC or Alter. Alter have always been good, GSC has come up the food chain since around 2008.

I feel like GSC is becoming less and less original lately. Don't get me wrong, the quality is great and everything, I just feel like there's something lacking in a lot their sculpts lately.

Kotobukiya is eh. I have a few figures from them now, and while the quality isn't bad, they're far from my favorite figures.
What I DO like about Kotobukiya is that it feels to me like they're putting out the figures for characters that they -want- to put out. Their lineup has a bunch of obscure characters, and they sometimes go for original poses/art styles that no other company really wants to touch. So I appreciate that.

It's something that I feel like GSC doesn't really do anymore. Kind of like feels they sit around a table and talk about "HEY, I know what will sell! We should use this series, base it on this concept art, etc."

As for Griffon, eh. Not a huge fan of their same face and eye templates for a LOT of their figures, but the quality doesn't seem bad and they look like they're getting better.
I REALLY wish they would drop those ugly eye templates, though. It's my number one beef with them.

Dude, Kotobukiya has just as many crappy figures as Griffon. Actually, due to the sheer number of figures Kotobukiya has crapped out they most certainly have more.

While I'll agree with you in that there are MAJOR defects in early-Griffon figures, they've started to bring themselves up to snuff with the likes of GSC & Alter.

As far as the last decent Touhou figure being Kotobukiya's Marisa, I will direct your attention to Gokokuden's Marisa. It is high quality. I own it. Pic related.
