Of course.

I've found ways to keep myself entertained alone for the past 21 years, I'll have no problem keeping myself entertained forever. Things change as time passes, all it takes is one day and you will have things you couldn't have before.

Being a Hikki solves almost all of the other problems, having a strong mind and will solves the rest. The world would end before I would go insane.

Molecular biologist here, as much as I wish it were true (that is the goddamn reason why I'm in this field of research, anti-aging and longevity), it was utterly misinterpreted and spun by tabloids out of control.

Media cannot interpret scientific affairs for shit, imo they really need to give researchers more air time to properly explain themselves.. after all, people jumping to conclusions about their research pisses them off more than mostly anything else in the world. The guys who did this were at Harvard, they are some of the snootiest researchers on the goddamn planet, they are probably pulling their hair out right now upon seeing the complete misinterpretation that almost everyone's giving their results.

More specifically, it had been a long-running experiment with a knockout group of mice for telomerase (aka they could not produce telomerase on their own and hence their telomeres shorted far faster than normal). So the mice started to age and decay for much the worse than normal versions.. and then the researchers started injecting these mice with telomerase, and unsurprisingly the decay was mitigated. Some of the rapid-decay symptoms that they had, improved slightly, but, they didn't get younger... they were simply not falling apart at the seams anymore, because they were finally being given something they had lacked their whole lives.

This is actually a tough choice if the alternative is the same afterlife they have in Gensokyo. Assuming you avoid something really bad like being condemned to hell or eaten by the fish in the Sanzu, the afterlife looks pretty good. Reincarnation exists, and the ghosts of the netherworld seem to just take it easy all the time; the worst they have to worry about seems to be being caught in a jar and used as air conditioning.

It is entirely possible to live as a recluse. To be a gray stranger is not a bad thing. However, you would want to be unrecognizable. If, for some reason, you got run over by a loading truck and then walked away as if nothing happened, people would start to wonder what exactly are you.

Worse yet, they would treat you like a freak. Which you are.

If you were immortal, people would start to treat you like god, because some people would think you are god. Also pretty much everyone would want to know what you did to get the immortality. I'd imagine that some government or organization might lock you up and possibly experiment on you or try to get you to get you to teach how to attain immortality. Although if you will outlast the government anyway, it might not be a big deal to you if you have already lived for eons, and a couple hundred more sitting around like you've always been doing would feel like a couple days comparatively to you, since you wouldn't really care about or miss whatever silly mortal affairs go on while you're chilling.

Well, partial reversal of degeneration is quite impressive in itself and does hold promise for treatment (of Werner syndrome in particular but mitigating aging effects is not implausible either), but as you know, it can't be applied to humans as is because the "treatment" is practically an open invitation for cancer.

Wow, I'm actually a lot like you.

If I described all of my talents and aptitudes, I would sound like Mr. Perfect; a real life Gary Stu to many. I'm not even going to start, because even people in real life have a difficult time believing that a person like me actually exists.

The issue is that, actually, it fucking sucks being the Mr. Perfect. Normal people get annoyed once they learn of all my capabilities and get a sense of the extent of my intellect. They have trouble accepting the fact that a person like me really does exist. So, the better I know someone, because the vast majority of people out there are normals, quickly my very existence starts to belittle their self esteem. Hence, even when I am being as generous and compromising as possible, they can't truly get along with me. I've been told straight to my face that I don't fit in with a crowd or get along with someone because I'm "too good" or "out of their league" etc. Normals hate me for who I am, and so it actually does not matter whether or not I'm an otaku to boot. If anything, that's actually helped normals get along better with me because they perceive it as my one flaw, and hence feel better about themselves and thus being around me. They start to assume that I'm not good socially etc and hence start to see that yes, I am actually a human and not some caricature come to life.

Nevertheless, I choose have as little contact with normals as humanly possible, and have shot down many many an offer to go get a drink at a bar or grab a bite to eat etc. I have very much enjoyed it being this way for many years, withdrawing from being expected to go out every weekend, and having to constantly have inane conversations, is the best thing that's ever happened to me. Honestly, people just... disappoint me. It is a far superior option, I've found, to replace them with delicious little Touhous, and all other manners of carefree superstimuli that I can find.

I have a lust for knowledge. The longer I can stay alive to learn about everything, the better.

It has nothing to do with aging or boredom, its more of a complex. I'd regret every minute on my death bed without a book in my hands and the inability to learn the things that are happening currently or after my death.

At least once the world ends there will be nothing more to learn about... except other planets, although accidently getting sucked into a star would kinda suck.
