Do you know why it screams virus and the like upon going to the site?

It is because it is a executable Java archive that extracts and executes itself on your computer.
This isn't a virus, but it very well could be, and others have uploaded real viruses on that same site.

And the warning is also because your net security sees that it is a self extracting executable, and if you accept to do it it can no longer guarantee to protect you, thus it warns you instead and asks if you are brave enough to proceed.

Are you new to the internet?

Enjoy never running anything that is self executable or anything that injects itself into other executables or processes, such as most things java, some patches or cracks and the likes.

You do understand that certain things sets off alarms, not because of how they behave or work, but rather due to the nature of what those types of files in general have the potential to do.
There is a huge difference.

If you start to program your own applications you should find out rather soon how increadibly easy it actually is to set off security alarms even though the scripts in question are perfectly safe.

That's wrong.

Python teaches the fundamentals in the most brainlessly easy way possible.

Java is a standard because of WRITE ONCE, RUN EVERYWHERE. That little bit means you don't have to give a shit about speccing stuff as long as there's a VM.

But really, the language doesn't matter.
Granted, each language has its own quirks that may help/hinder what you're doing, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. You could code in C++, Java, BASIC, whatever, and get the job done regardless. Good coders don't pidgeonhole themselves into a single language.

And really, while the engine is Java, if you researched it you'll find that it actually runs off of Lua scripts. It doesn't even seem like you have to touch Java with this...

>Java is intended so that the same program will work absolutely identically (on the Java Virtual Machine), everywhere.

If that is the case Java must be messed up on your computer in some way for some reason.
It should be entirely unrelated to this game.

If you actually were majoring in compsci then obviously they immediately moved on beyond that since no one uses Java for applications, just applets
