Of course I am, got my copy of AH4 on Blu-Ray in the mail on like Wednesday. Sadly I don't have an HDTV so it's not as amazing as it could be, but the TV I do have is quite nice and it does look considerably better than DVD. Should hopefully have an HDTV soon...

"More valuable things" as in, I've realized that moving to Japan isn't all that unrealistic of a goal...and if I'm going to do that, I'll need quite a bit of money saved up.

I originally thought I preferred being the 'American Aichan fan', traveling the world attending one or two really big MM events every year and leaving it at that. But who knows how much time I've got left with Aichan as a member of Momusu...and if I play my cards right and luck is on my side, I could be in Japan in a year or even less. plus America is a shit country and I'm ready to be done living here ww
If I can't pull that off, then I'll already have plenty of money set aside for when the next Momusu event I'd like to go to is announced so I can be there without having to penny-pinch at the last second.

And I'm realizing that, if I do move to Japan...I'm going to have to do something with all the stuff I've acquired over the years. On top of all my Momusu/Aichan stuff I've got around 700 video games, a least a couple hundred movies, etc etc...I'm a horrible packrat, although it's at least all stuff I actually would use at some point.
As hard as it will be for someone like me to part with my collections, I'm starting to have a major shift in priorities. Need to put my sentiments aside and get this whole process started sooner rather than later...and buying even more stuff isn't going to help that at all, obviously.
Besides, every penny I spend on MM merch or video games or whatever is one less penny toward meeting Aichan again.

That is a pretty full on decision right there. You'd better make sure you'd have a secure job and apartment to stay at. Getting your visa in line is also of critical importance. But it sounds like you've got some decent Japanese friends for support there.

That is definitely a huge shift in the type of fan mentality. Recently, I've come to a similar opinion, all revolving around the matter of convenience.

It is one thing to be a huge fan while in the Tokyo area, where things are openly available, travel to events is supported by countless options, currency isn't fluctuating due to ridiculous outside factors. Merchandise, fan events, concerts, fan networks and culture are all there.

To be quite honest being a full on Western fan is to no surprise is a complete disadvantage on most to almost levels.

But at the same time, let's not paint the broad brush that moving there would be some sort of magical fantasy land. Yes, it would be fucking sweet ONLY IF you are able to firmly establish yourself within the culture, have the ability to land a job, can communicate in Japanese effectively and have the desire to give it all to try and compete in 2011 Japan, which IS NOT a pretty picture.

The real priority I would say is connections, connections, connections. Finding an international friendly place of employment and stable housing are the essential challenges.

No shit...really the only advantage we get is being full-blown gaijin, so it's beyond easy to get the girls' attention at events in Japan. And getting to the point where your waifu knows who you are is surprisingly easy as well.

Oh, I'm aware it won't be easy...but so be it. Whatever it takes.

Employment I've already kind of got covered...I've been studying with a business consultant who works with Japanese companies for a few years now, he's the one I learned to speak Japanese from and he can tailor my lessons to better fit my needs. Already has, really...we've been preparing for me to work at a Japanese company, either in the US or Japan, almost since I started my lessons. Now I'm just taking the preparations I've done and will be putting them into action.
With his help and connections it should be much easier to find steady employment in Japan (as far he's aware, I just want to work for a Japanese company and happen to be into Momusu).
Housing...for now, there's places like Sakura House. Once I get a little more established I'll work on something a bit more grounded.

Politics/economy. I do live in a fairly small suburban town, but I don't mind that so much. It's definitely more big picture stuff than "man, living here sucks, I want out of this town" etc etc
Although honestly right now the whole global political/economic climate is shit, so no matter where you are there's big problems. US is worse than most, though...

How do you not know what that means, it means the convenience of going on tour and to fan club events because of living in the immediate area, and therefor not paying 3k to even to get your self in the ballpark.

It also means the difference between having goods and news filter across half the world versus waking up out of bed and walking down the street to where things are happening.

lol, I sort of understand what you are saying with the recognition or the perception of being special. It is a big reason why I do really enjoy being an U.S. fan and rather enjoy being eccentric in my own country.
Just don't forget these same bonuses won't be recognized as a whole in Japan, maybe in the Musume circle it will garnish some notoriety but remember you'll be dealing firsthand with the core Ai-chan wota fan base on their territory, you will be challenged (not that you aren't already)

Japan is going through a particular and nasty recession right now. The trend has been to cut back on international hires and the atmosphere towards gaijins in general is going downward.

But it still sounds noble to wanna still go for it and if you find the right people to help ya, certainly a situation would improve. And shit, there is plenty enough of doom and gloom attitudes on /jp/, there are thousands of gaijins in Tokyo, surely there are some great victory stories.

Well, simply getting a job in Japan in the first place will require me to arrange both of those. I'm still figuring everything out, once I talk to the guy who teaches me Japanese about seriously pursuing a career over there I'll have a better idea of time frame, etc. It's possible I could be in Japan within a year, but I'm going to assume that's only if I'm extremely lucky...
And obviously it's not 100%, there's a possibility I won't be able to find a job over there...in which case I'll just find a job with a Japanese company here (plenty of places near where I'm at) and do the 'one or two big MM trips a year' thing as originally planned.

Yeah, I'll admit I've already felt some negative vibes on occasion...for example, from an Aichan wota I introduced myself to before the sokkyougeki. He was actually really nice (chatted for about 15-20 minutes, he ended up just giving me a poster) until afterward. I dunno if the attention I got from Aichan at the end of the first show set him off or what, but we never talked once after that first time...and we had several opportunities to do so over the course of the events we both attended. Every time I greeted him he just kind of looked at me like '...yeah, what?".
Not like it matters all that much, I've already got friends over there and Aichan's approval is all I need~

Doesn't hurt to try, I'd rather attempt this and fail than sit around here for the rest of my life. For the moment I'm feeling pretty positive about it, but we'll see how that keeps up as my plans pan out.

I'm getting into the meat of this DVD right now and I'm not sure how you can even get to that perception.

I love the way this was DVD was set up for them, it is very lovely and the boat reminds me of the Makoto send off episode.

What is clear is that JunJun and LinLin are obviously not the same kind of people and both react and have very different natures. And even as they stated they are sort of overwhelmed by the whole experience, it was so quick and shocking.

Aika-chan was so right about LinLin, it definitely comes off as one energy level.

I swear when I hear making her responses and messages it is almost hard to distinguish the weight given to each statement, JunJun does not have that problem at all.

Originally I didn't really want to move there right away because I feared that work would take up so much of my time I'd have no chance to go to Musume events anyway...figured I'd find a job here, go see Momusu one or two times a year and then someday find a job over in Japan, probably after Aichan is done as a member of Momusu.
That's still a possibility, if I do some further research into working there and it turns out to be too messy or whatever, I'll stick to the original plan. At the moment, though, I'm really feeling motivated about moving there.

Ahh just finished the Panda Memorial DVD and it left an overall warm and releasing feeling.

It was also pretty surprising how each members good bye message was relatively tear free but just very warm reflective conversation.

Until Ai-chan came up of course and then the tears starting coming out. And I don't know whether it was the way the DVD was recorded or the nature of their location but it definitely seemed to cut through any deep emotional dwelling from the Pandas.

And maybe that was why after they all finished their messages back and forth to each other JunJun felt like bringing up that she initially didn't like LinLin.

I think Gaki-san said it best that JunJun was able to open up to others while LinLin refused to lean on others. I think the ironic thing is that these were probably both defense mechanisms. And as LinLin said there was so much pressure at the time that there was a lot of tension between them and Musume. If you remember, Reina really had a problem with her sempai when she first came in as well (perhaps she never really did adapt the best way after all that time)

The Panda messages to the fans were really sweet and it was such a great subbed release and I think it really helped clarify how each member felt about each other.

Nah, I think the shock at least for me revolves around the nature of her media appearances this month as if the release was still on schedule.
