The girl however? She doesn't pass as Japanese, no matter how one might consider Japanese as the default. Sure it is not wrong to assume that she is Japanese, because she is and it isn't exactly that hard to guess, it is however weird to find her characteristics to look Japanese, because typically Japanese don't look like that.
And yes, regarding the hair I happen to know that she have dyed it, but that doesn't matter, the skintone is enough.

And sure there are exceptions everywhere, but it still doesn't really matter. The typical Japanese aren't "white". You do see how both could be considered to be "white", right? But at the same time you should see the difference of tone.

Sure, it is no secret that Japan is real heavy on makeup and all kinds of cosmetics and the like, full body makeup is not as common however, also very noticable if someone were to suddenly loose a shirt.

What is hard is subjective.
Most rich people actually don't even understand what "hard" is when a poor person says it.

Subjectively they may feel that they have worked hard because they have gone through all that expensive education, and perhaps even worked in order to sustain what they have.
But even if that is the case it doesn't mean they have ever been close to losing everything, and they more often than not have someone to turn to if the worst were to happen due to their family.

Also, generally speaking it is easier to make money as long as you have it.
If you don't have it to begin with, it is by far harder to open any doors in life, in fact they perhaps not even exist to begin with as you have to have money to make the doors.

I am sorry, but the rich kid boy who got through all of his education, and perhaps left to get by on his own, still have not have had it as hard as the kid who had to go through high school, into higher education, and all without parents capable of sustaining anything.
There is a fundamental difference in struggle between the ones with recources and the ones without.

Naturally however it is still all subjective.
If everyone was poor, no one feel as bad about it.

No, I don't think any of the characters looks western due to any facial features, eyes etc or anything of the sort.

Even the "pale skin" argument fails hard because that isn't really what this is about.
It has more to do with hue rather than how pale ones skin is.
You can gather two paleskinned people, but they don't have to have the same hue.

I am not "white" myself, but I live among such people.
And yes I am very pale, but it is still noticable if I stand right next to someone.
This is due to what is mentioned above and not because of anything else.
