When my sister and father were having a conversation at some point they brought up patchouli and said how they didn't like how it smelled. I was just silently thinking "Yep, that's true."

I'd recommend going to the "comics by release" section of the Wiki, start at the top and work your way down. Also, the Gaku torrent is a couple of months out of date (if i'm not mistaken). If you tell us what kind of doujin you like, we can always recommend a few as well.

I guess a more serious take on Touhou (not grimdark, humor is still fine), like some of FLIPFLOPs or Silent Sinner in Blue.

Or just plain humor ones. 4Koma are fine.

I don't like 100% pairing-based ones. I mean, if there's a pairing in the doujin, that's fine. But if the whole doujin is about the pairing... it's boring. Unless the interaction is at least interesting.

for stuff with plot (not necessarily serious but not 4koma) try: (from after Ice Rain) Ichinose (mainly Malice orientated), KFC, Millet Soup, personal color, Red sight, Rocket Fuel 21 (Aki Eda from SSiB), sekitou and Wi-Z Garage (glorious Gensokyou version of 300).
For humor: Ishikiriba, Omchicken, ponjiuusu, Self-styled Pure and Innocent Group, Tail Concerto Temporary, Utsura Uraraka and Winter scenery.
