You don't fully understand the definition of a normalfag.

Posters on /b/ are there because it's "cool" and "edgy" nowadays. A large portion of its userbase is literally children who think they belong to some sort of underground website. Take a look at any of the general camwhoring threads, which are hard to miss because they make up easily 1/8th of the board. lol, epic, and emoticons are commonplace. The place is literally a facebook 2.0.

By the way, when I say other content, I don't mean we become a generic random board, nor tolerate worthless threads. There is a space between the two extremes.

Fine, so KS is out. There are still plenty of /jp/ related material that never gets discussed. If people make threads about them, they get ignroed in favor of /v/ invasion thread or /a/ spam.

That's a shitty attitude. If you really want to discuss something, make a thread about it. Make sure you post interesting text or an interesting image. If the thread fails, try again a little later. No worries, you can make multiple threads so long as you don't spam. Bump your own thread a few times if needed. This is not a secret: everybody does that.

If nobody responds to your thread then you have to just accept that nobody wants to talk about your topic. Don't blame it on the spam. Try and make a more interesting opener, or maybe /jp/ just isn't interested.

This is real common sense stuff but so many people seem to have a problem with it for some reason, expecting the janitor to curbstomp the board into only X and Y things for them. But ultimately, people talk about what they want to talk about. You can't force discussion on things that people aren't interesting in discussing.

Very true, we SHOULD. The problem, however, is the crowd it attracts. I would have mostly nothing against, say, anime and videogame discussion here, but the sad truth is that it's nearly without exception detrimental to the board so I'd simply rather have neither.

If you can somehow guarantee me that stepping out of our niche topics that no disaster-bringing outsider has any interest in wouldn't make the board worse, I'd be all for it. Until then, it's best for /jp/ to stay Touhou & VNs/General.

1) noko. not noko+sage, not sage, noko. keep the good threads on page 1, because trolls will surely bump their own.
2) flaming. if you got any skill in that, use it. make them cry. otherwise, don't bother giving them attention.
3) positive. their ultimate goal is too make people here frustrated, to let out their own frustration. fight your anger, and help your fellow /jp/ers fight theirs as well. encourage them. use sweet words and gestures of good intent.

I would go so far as to say a certain amount of off-topic discussion is actually important for a community such as /jp/ to function. Because discussing the same things every day gets boring quickly, and at some point we actually need a break from that.
