Being luckier than 99% of people means 1 in 100 people are as lucky if not luckier than you. How many people do you see a day? If you are a normalfag in a major city, probably more than 100. Probably the amount of people that can't/don't read roman characters. And of course probably those that can't read English. But then again, illiteracy IS actually higher than you think. Hell, there's 300.000 semi-illiterates and 100.000 illiterates in my country, which isn't lowtier bullshit country either.

You've no idea how bad the literacy problem is, especially functional literacy (technically, as pointed out above, this isn't entirely about literacy, but very much related)...

In case of US, a so-called "developed country":

>50 percent of adults cannot read a book written at an eighth grade level.
>20 percent of Americans are functionally illiterate and read below a 5th grade level.

Now, some portion of those are people that simply aren't native English speakers, mentally disabled, etc., but the fact remains - you have to deal with them.
