does it feel good to be NEET?

>> No.6426351

It does if you can find enough to fill your days with. As time passed I started doing less and less and got really melancholic. I sure wish I were NEET again when it's time to get some work done though.

The grass is always greener, etc.

>> No.6426375

sometimes I tink, it is the best feeling in the world.
you're free and you're doing everything you want with your free time.
enjoying anime. enjoying manga. enjoying visuals novel or old Amiga's games.
you're happy, beacouse nothing changes in your life, it's the same shit as always. you know, that it would be better *if (...)* but it could be a lot worse.

but you aren't progressing.

who cares? a lot of people stay days at home, watching tv and do absolutely nothing.

I may do the same with my life.

but why there is this aftertaste?

>> No.6426386

I had a girfriend. I know social life, it's darker and brighter sides. And you know what? Everything was nice but turned to be shit in the end. Now I have no regrets wasting my time for some stupid VN.

And inb4 "you found NEET base"

The only reason to work is the discretionary income, but the cost of time is definitely one that takes its toll.

It feels good to be a NEET.

>> No.6426532

Not really. I want a job again because having money is best. As much as I love spending the days with my dear friends here, this board is becoming very disagreeable as of late. And the usual distractions of VN and Touhou are leaving me unfulfilled. Why just this morning I woke up with a sense of overwhelming dread, the looming threat of permanent failure. It is rather uncomfortable to always feel so.

I'm in training. My NEET life ended a week ago, officially that is.

Pickup a creative or productive hobby. VNs and games are low level NEET activities.

>> No.6426554

After a lot of experience of being a NEET, I would say there needs to be some variation. The pessimistic way to say it is that you need to torture yourself with a job once in a while to realize how good it feels to be a NEET, or you'll just get too used to it and everything gets dull and unfulfilling. In short, it neither feels good or bad, it feels numb.

There's always a few people stating that they've been NEET for years and are as happy as ever with it, and that's good for them. Hell, I envy them. But if we count those as an exception, I doubt it's a coincidence that we have so many NEETs and so many people who seem to have suicidal thoughts.

I've been a NEET for a couple of years. Shit sucks, I do the same actions every day, and they bring no enjoyment.

I only wish for a disposable income, and then I know my NEET life will become enjoyable again. This thought is the only thing keeping me going sometimes.

I need to look into welfare or something, but I'm too scared to do anything about it.

>> No.6426587

Being a NEET feels good yes. However the constant lack of money and knowing I'm only making things harder for myself in the future diminish my happiness though.

>> No.6426637

Get a guitar. They can be had easily for well under $100 dollars. If you're in the US, check Craigslist, you can find guitars at $50 OBO that no one wants. Start learning Touhou themes. Better yet, start researching music theory.

Pirate a DAW or something similar (Ableton Live, Renoise, Reason). Start tinkering around. Find an online community that produces music in genres that you enjoy, preferably using the software that you've chosen. There are forums to fit most situations.

Get a small, easily cared for pet. My suggestion would be to get something with a short life span, so it won't be a commitment of several years to take care of it properly. Hamsters, mice, and fish work well. Hell, you could even do an ant farm or keep brine shrimp.

Start making things.

Save up and buy one doll. Then, start making it outfits.

Buy a soldering gun. Find a simple circuit diagram for an amplifier and build your own.

Find some basic instructional texts on a programming language of your choice. Start scripting.

Feels really nice, but it gets extremely depressive when someone calls you offering a job and you don't have the guts to appear in the interview. It happened twice to me, I shit you not.

>> No.6426674

This is actually not necessarily true. If you find a place of employment that serves as a proper outlet for your creativity and enthusiasm, consider yourself blessed.

Most jobs just suck your soul out and offer you cash in return.

It's weird. I want to learn the language. It's one of the few things I've ever really wanted to do.

But I just don't do it. Or rather, I try, and end up failing every time. I save all these bookmarks and download .pdfs of learning Japanese books, but in the end... I just can't do it. Fuck my horrible memory and unmotivated self.

Interviews are really intimidating. I'm more afraid of interviewing than I am of actually working a job. When you interview you are basically presenting yourself at a superior's mercy to be inspected; it's like you are being scrutinized and begging at the same time. Really, really humiliating. I feel embarrassed to present myself to some professional, successful adult and act as if I deserve any consideration from them.

I am afraid of learning Japanese.

I love listening to music, its my only hobby. Problem is, I am a faggot in the extreme, and all of my music is sugary sweet japanese vocals. I am deeply afraid that if I learn japanese, I will not like my extensive list of music. I would rather kill myself than not like my music.

You're probably exagerrating the difficulty and your own weaknesses because it's more convenient than trying harder. Just stop caring about how long time it will take or whether you really believe you can do it, and push on, a little at a time. A short daily routine will help you much more in the long run than pushing yourself harder than you can handle for a few weeks and giving up.

After I stopped worrying about stuff like the speed of my progresses, my progress accelerated immensely.

Outside of hobbies, there are other things that can be important to feeling satisfied with your NEET life.

Some people do not function well emotionally without some form of regular exercise. This can be as simple as push-ups, squats, crunches and pull-ups. Stretching can also feel good. Most people recommend doing something at least 5 days out of the week. If you're comfortable going outside, you can find a nice place for a short run. If you're not in the city or somewhere sketchy, you could even do this at night. There's no reason to be frustrated with your current athletic ability. The only real point is to tire yourself out. Making your muscles burn and then taking a shower can be one of the best ways to start a day of doing nothing.

Keep your body clean. If you never go out showering every few days is fine, but there's nothing good about going over a week without washing your body. Typically, it will just make you feel like shit. Usually, taking a shower right after you get up will help you start the day.

Keep your room clean. Eliminate unnecessary clutter. You're not trying to win any interior design awards, but the simple act of tidying things can bring a great deal of satisfaction.

NEET != Unmotivated

It does not feel good to lack motivation.

I enjoyed my time as a NEET, but really can't go back to it any time soon.

I have too many hobbies that require too much money. I'm currently living with family, so having untouched income is fantastic, though I'll probably end up moving out once I've bought all that I've wanted.

Actually, I have the same reason. Trite lyrics are a HUGE turn off for me. Music is a big portion of what I spend my time on. I would rather enjoy my music because of blissful ignorance than enjoy untranslated VNs/anime/manga/etc.

I feel the same way. I prefer showing what I'm good for rather than telling about it and constantly having to worry about the balance between arrogance and humility and all that crap. And worst of all is the obligatory "tell me about yourself, what kind of stuff do you do in your free time?".

Now that you mention it, I should really start having some kind of exercise routine again. I usually feel much more comfortable with myself during the days I manage to keep a routine up, even if I usually don't go on for long enough to notice much improvement.

That's because you initially overestimate yourself and when you actually try to learn something new you immediately underestimate yourself. It's actually natural human behaviour.

Guitar not your style? Keyboards can be had for the same price. Extra points if it have a MIDI port. This means that if you also pirated a DAW you can use it to control your synthesizers and drum kits and such.

Not up to keeping a pet? Don't want to deal with shit, or cleaning up after another organism? Get a plant. Better yet, get several. Flowering plants can be satisfying, but one of my favorite things to do is to get a plant that will produce something edible. Easiest things are generally herbs. Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, etc. Mint is a good one. Some types of peppers can be grown indoors easily. Have a stove? Buy some canning jars and make some pickled peppers. When I was young, I knew a lady that actually kept banana trees in her home.

Start drawing. Not much explanation needed for this one, you only need a paper and pencil. This one will probably be highly frustrating, so it's not necessarily recommended unless you really want to pursue it. Just don't start posting your shit online until you develop some skill. Please. Also, study anatomy. Please.

>>6426778
It doesn't really work like that. If you do one set of a whichever exercise until you fail to complete a rep you will be probably be adequately tired. If you do only one set a day, you will not make any gains. Don't ask /fit/ about something like that, though. They won't like it.

Buy a camera. They're not as expensive as you think, check eBay. If you're high functioning, go for a walk and start taking pictures. Taking pictures of little girls is fine, but make sure that you have a few canned responses ready to appease the occasional questioning mother. If stepping outside your door makes you an anxious mess, there are plenty of things to photograph indoors. Collect figures? Endeavor to capture them in their fullest glory. Too poor for figures? Remember the pet or plants you're taking care of? Also, pic related. http://www.pixiv.net/tags.php?tag=paperchild

On that note, almost everything on /po/ is cheap to do and can be fun. Go check it out.

Start learning to cook. It's healthy, and it's cheaper than buying premade meals or going to restaurants. It's also satisfying to eat something you have created with your own hands. If you're a NEET in your parents' home, your family will probably support this. If there's tension in the household, it might even help. Start with easy dishes, go buy some beans and a ham hock with assorted ingredients (garlic, onions, carrots, etc.). Soak the beans. Then throw the rest of the ingredients in, simmer for a few hours and suddenly you have a meal.
