Nothing really. I already passed N1 several years ago, I just heard it might be harder now and thought I'd take it to see where I stand. It'd be cool if I could help some of you cheat though.

This might be off-topic, but since this seems to be a thread for high-level Japanese peoples, what's the "right" way to romanize づ? Is it "du", "zu", or "dzu"? I'm thinking it's "zu", but wouldn't that get confused with ず?

Taking N1. I don't see why anyone would say it's hard. If you know the damn language, all the questions on the site's practice exam are easy, and it's a 60% pass mark. The only reason I could see for people failing it is because they overestimate their own ability.

Beware though, because I personally didn't think the example questions to be all that representative for the actual thing. Better to check some previous exams.

Probably the hardest type of questions you get on N1 is stuff like:

遭... A: 隅 B: 寓 C: 遇 D: 偶

This can trip you up bad if you never bothered learning how to write kanji, or to learn them by radical. The bulk of the questions are still pretty easy though. I'm taking N1 as well, and honestly the only thing I'm really worried about is not having enough time to finish reading all of the texts.

I just checked out the example questions.
This is it? This is what you fags always make a such a fuss about? This is what you tell me someone needs to study 5 fucking years for? I only started studying 日本語 last year and don't even take it all that seriously, and it's all piss-easy for me, even Levels 1 and 2. The only pitfalls are that the questions ask for the typical language-textbook bullshit that doesn't have much to do with how people actually speak, and also that the texts/questions use very few 漢字, which sucks when you focus your active studies mostly on learning those.
It's funny though, the retards who care about this test seem to be just as terrible at Japanese as the Japs whose only goal in studying English is to higher their TOEIC score.

I suspect they try to dumb down the difficulty of the practice tests a little bit, seeing as how they make money off of the tests. I'd really like to take an actual test given in the past.

So, I'll google it myself as well, but just in case someone knows of a good source I don't find, does anyone know of a good place to get actual samples of previous tests? I know the N1 has never been given before this year and is harder than the 1-kyuu, but I'm sure the 1-kyuu would not be a terrible diagnostic nonetheless.

>> No.6428645

>>6427822
You're right, most of the questions are pretty straightforward and anyone who dedicates themselves for 12-18 months should be at JLPT1 standard. People who make out the "number of JLPT kanji" to be a challenge baffle me.

That said, I'm too lazy to read long passages of Japanese much as part of my day to day routine, so I'm worried the time limit will trip me up on the comprehension parts.

Sample question from N1
(All in Japanese)
Woman 1: How is your project coming along?
Woman 2: Just terrible. I can't accelerate my tachyon particles any faster than 17 on the Cochran Scale.
Woman 3: Have you remembered to apply the quantum bias?
Woman 2: Ah, I totally forgot! That also explains why my neutrinos were all out of wack.
Woman 4: Good evening ladies.
Woman 1: Oh, hello Junko! How are you today?
Woman 4: Doing okay. I finally won the Nobel Price for my work in molecular bioengineering, but I'd only just gotten the grant when all of my bio-peptides fell apart! How embarrassing!
Woman 2: I know exactly how you feel. I can't tell you how many times my bio-peptides have failed me during a crucial moment.
Question: Which one of these women is pregnant?

not to be rude as you didn't start this line of discussion, i think it's best if we avoid arbitrary, pointless, and factless debates about whether a human can or can't do something. this is exactly what that discussion is leading to, by the way. "i can" or "you can't" are two of the most easily usable trolling lines in existence, for a number of reasons.

to those of you looking at taking the test and taking practice tests, keep in mind that it's not just a matter of whether you get the answers right or not but how fast you can complete them. even if you get every answer right on those tests, if you take too long to answer them it's meaningless on the actual test.

i would argue that getting to a level of quick reading and comprehension is what takes the most time when learning a new language, not actually understanding what's written based on studying vocab+grammar.

The reason why azns are less ashamed of their waifu collections than in the west is because parents like it when their son shows an interest in girls-having a son with 200 pictures of hatsune miku his bedroom, to the parents, just means he's got women on his mind and will likely end up producing grandchildren once his life reaches that point lol where he starts socializing with women openly and dating
