I think you're overestimating the number of people who actualy cared.

i think luka is a better choice for targeting western audiences as a whole.

western audiences are not going to be as accepting of a 16 year old girl who's mostly portrayed as a loli as they are of a more mature singing lead like luka. calling vocaloid a miku fandom is going to challenge western males, because miku is a little too much of a "cute" character to be acceptable as an interest for males in western audiences(being interested in something cute in the west, at least where i grew up when i was in school, was something like acceptable proof for being a homosexual).

either way, tl;dr as much as i like miku, i don't think having a loli/jailbait as the head character is very conducive to anyone taking it seriously in the west.

then again i guess it's going to be jumped on either way for looking cartoon/anime-ish and the only people who will be accepting of it are nerd-types anyways. vocaloid is far from being perfect as a voice synth yet in the first place.

Does anyone else think Vocaloid still really sucks for English vocals? Also I can't think of anyone that seriously used Vocaloid for English in their mixes, and this thing has been out for 5+ years now.

To be honest just thinking about that phenome chart makes me asspained.

I think free has a nice pronunciation, sure, the writer didn't know shit about english grammar, but the words don't sound that bad.

After some practice you kinda get the hang of each frequency's effect on the human ear and such. It's just giving each instrument a multiband EQ and doing a balancing act sorta.

"Boost less, cut more" is what helped me a lot too IMO.

well, the japanese sound set is a lot more limited than english's, so it makes sense that it would be less well developed. not only that, but english pronounciation is a lot more complicated in notation than japanese, so it's naturally harder to work with as well. does vocaloid use the more universal pronounciation system(like what you see used on wikipedia) or does it use the default english alphabet when using english?

are voice banks really that hard to develop? i would think miku would have a wide variety of different banks by now(german, french, english, etc).

People just used it as an opportunity to toy with vocaloid fans who were willing to defend vocaloid or were legitimately angry at the way it was presented(as somebody said the other day, "It's so terrible you can tell it's bad at a glance!" was the general message it seemed to convey, no real information was presented on it--also, they pretty much made it seem like vocaloid was a type of music rather than a tool for making music(i.e. all vocaloid music=anime/j-pop/ditty-ish music when they're really just looking at a specific group of vocaloid fans)).
