Just curious, the movie really made you want to read the VN more? You didn't think...the packing seemed crammed and the character actions questionable in the movie? It skips so many details that it seems geared towards fans who read the VN or at least watched the original anime. I was going to show this to friends but I didn't want to make them think FSN was just a flashy, confusing action series.

I've already watched the anime and know a lot about the story based on what I've seen on 4chan and other places. I guess I'm just pretty bored right now and the movie seemed pretty cool so I thought I'd give the VN a try.

But did you get the sense that it was highly philosophical and more about proving certain ideals instead of just people fighting for the sake of winning fights, especially in the Shirou vs Archer fight? Granted, the movie made it look more awesome than it was supposed to be, and it's both good and bad (it was described as a particularly slow, dull fight where they were no longer even using their skills but sheer willpower just to keep moving, each in determination to prove their current beliefs, and Archer is so impressed by Shirou's determination to follow his ideals that he accepts his defeat) but I enjoyed the adaptation.

I would say the opposite. If you are a fan of UBW, the route in the VN, then you might like it.

As a standalone however it is complete and utter rubish, and knowledge of the source material is required knowledge.

But it's not really that great even if you have read it.
The pacing is ridiculous.
The prologue up to the point where UBW branches of is covered in less than 5 minutes, and the pacing continues to be somewhat like that.

It really is kind of like reading the LotR trilogy, only that you skip The Fellowship, and jump directly to The Two Towers, and then you skip 5-10 pages for every one you read.

Other than some animated action, don't expect anything from the movie at all.
There is little to no real connection between the scenes at all and all of the character developement is put to the side or simply fallen out of the picture.
If you have read the thing, you might be able to fill in the gaps some if you have good memory, but it really isn't that great.

On the plus side, DEEN did for once portray a Berserker that was actually capable of doing things.
Both strong and fast/agile. The kind of Berserker that gives off some kind of superiority.
But then he just stood there as if he wasn't capable of doing anything while he faced Gil and they also skipped the scene where he managed to break the chain, and he just died pathetically fast

If you completed all three routes, it's pretty long. Though alot of it feels like filler. It took me about a week to finish it. (4-5 hours a day)
