You can't pick and piece together different idols and their careers and shape together the image of what Maki is doing in 2010, that is just misleading.

Would I like my favorite singer to only release a single every year or often, no, but if she was doing a whole lot of other fan events or concerts at least through the year it wouldn't be as bad.

Did you like when Maki did a partial show all magazine shoot in order to snag attention and get her way into more interviews and more magazines?

On one hand you want to hate on the idol structure but on the other hand you have no problem when Maki does idol promotional things.

And hey what's with the Play hating, I think acting is a great thing to tune up. Especially when it can get you more parts on television and is a respectable fine art.

and Maki did that photoshoot for herself and to get <picture related> in there. Her story. No one really gave a fuck about it so I don't know if it gave her any real exposure worth mentioning. But I do love the fact that a fashion magazine still printed it slapping "just so you know this dress she was wearing here cost this much" on there. Fun times.

Again, your point of view is so uni polar that it is almost pointless to discuss it. Can they do a better job managing some of their artists, sure, what label doesn't make mistakes when promoting artists later in their careers?

You have to keep in mind there are so many factors that revolve around releases. The extremely high turnover of artists in Japan, the limited and promotional channels for ex-Idol singers in Japan.

I'm not saying they are perfect but they do promotion for some of their artists. But some are as they say, in house artists and probably won't break into the charts without a tireless promotion campaign. Reputation and partners are also a big factor now.

To be honest H!P is churning out releases and events left and right, so fans of those groups with access and money should be happy.

I think you are misreading the atmosphere for what UFA can really do in this idol market.

That is something could be argued and is argued understandably.

Personally, I am really enjoying the social media blitz and I think we are really seeing how quickly twitter and blogs can get idol news to their fans and how actually involved a fan can be within H!P versus even just a year ago.

There is no question that UFA is taking a defensive position at this point while other groups flood themselves endlessly. Shit man, send a tweet to Tsunku and ask him position on the whole thing, I'd like to hear it too.

All I know is that we've got a bunch of new albums on the way I'm looking forward too, so clearly music is being made.

All of the other stuff you proclaim to not give a shit about however is how you don't actually have a position on the issue, because you'll complain when there is lot of content (with promotion) and when there is little content (when Aya doesn't release singles, etc.)

Here's a good recent example of where you are wrong. Let's look at Mano Erina & S/mileage right now.

In Mano's case, she was sort of crowned as you will, as the next big H!P solo singer. Parties were thrown, all of H!P gave her praise and she was giving TONS of promotion, multiple t.v. shows, movies, radio shows, magazines and releases. And it hasn't really catched on with the public.

Now ironically if you look at her former back up dancers and eggs, S/mileage you see a complete in house group formation and development story work rather well. Considering how few Eggs have actually progressed out on there own alone is ridiculous, so Tsunku made a very specific and key selection with them. They performed in house in the sheltered house of Mano and that fanbase while they built their skills and Tsunku helped produce really catchy songs that seemed to work just right for them.

But for their big initial release, rather than just flood and push them out in the open, they did a grass root campaign to get 10,000 smile pictures to collect. And if they didn't collect them then the record wouldn't release. I really thought that whole experience showing them work for it on Bijo and out in the open, collecting the fans voices and images really provided a unique and solid backing to their launch. And while it's not chart crunching numbers, they now enjoy better sales than Berryz & C-ute & Mano Erina releases.

Mind you again, this all revolves around trending, the current market, public perception with younger idols and the possible fanbase projections.

They also have completely locked into the social networking approach of promotion, you callously say there is no effort occurring but the effort itself and promotion is evolving (or rather they have finally caught on to the concept of this change).

Heavy handed media bombarding can in fact make you look desperate and people can reject you for doing so.

let's start at the basics, like with music videos that don't fucking suck and some music that stands out... example: for being heralded as the next big thing, mano sure didn't get a lot of quality PVs or any songs that stand out as fresh! hell, to make a great PV you don't need a budget at all, just some god damn creativity would be nice.

where hello project is now, they aren't revolutionizing j-pop like they did in the early 2000s. not that anyone else out there is, but in order to boost their OWN sales and image h!p NEEDS to put out some singles that are undeniably, insanely fucking awesome. none of this conservative stuff! you can hear glimpses of brilliance on the albums, even in the singles, but someone needs to take those quirky bits and RARE BACK. there are so many amateur musicians and creative minds out there that could provide a major spark. maybe even get tsunku more focused on one or two groups and let someone else take up the slack for the rest, because instead of creating one straight up, knock-out album he is producing like a billion pretty good ones!

it all starts with creativity. i couldn't give a fuck if a song doesn't sell 100k, in fact a lot of the catchiest songs from h!p's glory years didn't sell that much. people's creativity fades, guys. there are plenty of ways to spice it up but putting out a product that is less good than what one has accomplished in the past is a hard thing to swallow. unfulfilled potential is probably my least favorite thing ever.

In terms of visiting places, it is so different for each person. It's funny you are referring to the Haromoni episodes for suggestions, probably is some good stuff there.

You know I'm not sure what to even suggest because my suggestions really revolve around atmosphere and mood I guess.

And I don't know who will be accompanying you or if you are going solo otaku style. And if you intend on doing a lot of traveling.

But you really have to go to Akihibara, I know it's almost cliche of a suggestion but you have to see it in its glory and just adventure through it.

As for Musume related, you have to go to one of the Hello Shops, probably the one in Shibuya would be the best option. Although this could be a danger to your budget with all the shopping there, lol

Shibuya is just so fricking cool too man, again a lot of this is really kind of stuff that draws me in. But you'd definitely would want to have a guide with you or a planner ready if you will be doing some inter Tokyo traveling.

And then there is the food, cafes and bars, oh my lord! Why not take a tour of the TV Tokyo headquarters where you can prod around for various markings of H!P members. Perhaps they may be running tours through the building throughout the week.

Or what about Tokyo Tower just like our OP image, you could watch that Morning Days to see the markets they walk through, I mean perfect for being on topic, lol!

Bit of both, staying with a friend who's willing to show me around but there's a few days each week where she'll be busy. Got a few non-Japanese friends who will be around, may meet up with them...and depending on who I meet at the Ai/Gaki improv theater shows I may hang around with some Japanese wota as well. I know at least one guy who's going to be there anyway, so we'll see what happens haha

I can tell you he certainly is, more informed on MM in general than anybody else I've met outside of some Japanese fans actually. I couldn't even consider the possibility of matching up orz, he's been at this for a much much longer time than me...but I do the best I can.
Then again, we also have very different approaches...

But I don't feel right discussing all this without him around. I can at least tell you that, as far as I'm aware, I'm not a primary reason he doesn't hang around here anymore. Think he just got bored with the threads, but obviously we would have to ask him to know for sure.
