What?
2s should be a fucking safe tile, definitely throw out the 7man first. It is so early in the game and if you play into the dealer hand, so what? If dealer doesnt have any dora it is a shitty yakuhai hand.

>>6174432
Why so many 2sou answers in this thread?
Between having to deal a tile close to a dora and not close to a dora potentially against two open tenpai hands, why deal the 2sou?
Even if two players discarded the tile previously, the dealer obviously changed his hand after those were dealt, making that tile viable.
And seeing how he was going for a fast hand, and dealing nothing but pin and man tiles beforehand make it more probable that he was waiting on sou tiles.
The dora being the 3sou also makes this more likely that he would be going for this in the beginning.
In addition, the dealing of the 7sou(from his hand?) marks that he could have solidified his wait(especially for hon itsu hands) to something like a 2/5 wait upon drawing a 3sou in he only had a 4sou or 7sou waiting to be matched up with something.

so what's a good way to practice score counting? or do you carry a score sheet around everywhere you go when you play with real tiles?
i kinda want to transition to real life mahjong evantually but there's alot of stuff the computer does automatically that i haven't managed to learn yet
any in depth guide for inperson mahjong? like basic tile etiquette when you pon/chi etc, how the heck you first deal the tiles, etc the works
i've never actually found a proper guide for it, most people just assume you already know what to do

>> No.6193463

>>6193387
I found a guide for that bullshit (starting the game, setting it up, how to roll the dice/choose seats) If I have it on this computer (I don't think I do) I'll upload it tomorrow and put it in this thread. For score counting memorizing mangen, haneman, baiman etc is easy and dealer is just 1.5x the score. For less then 5han I just fucking round, fuck that Fu shit, 1han is 1000, 2han is 2000, 3 is 4000 (To not encourage yakuhai/tanyao only), 4 and 5 are 5000.

I memorized all the hands and their respective han value...I guess if you didn't you need to carry a score sheet with you.

basic tile control is just when you pon, chi, kan know how to turn the tiles in respect to who you called them from, where to put them, where to draw (STOP DRAWING FROM THE DEADWALL ITS SEPARATED FOR A REASON) and don't make stupid anime sounds (overly dramatic riichi, ざわ。。。ざわ。。。, etc)

Anyway need to sleep, class in 6 hours. If the thread is alive I'll try and find that pdf.

i have no problem with the yakus and han value, it's the fu/han score count that i get lost on, just can't plan my hand out while calculating score at the same time

>> No.6194237

>it's the fu/han score count that i get lost on

You don't need to worry about that.

Basically, think that with 1 or 2 han you'll get 1000/2000 points most of the time if your hand is open and without any kans. With 3 hans you'll get around 5000, sometimes mangan. Then 4-5 han is mangan, 6-7 han is haneman, 8-10 is baiman, 11-12 is sanbaiman and 13+ yakuman.

>> No.6194244

>>6194237
yea but wouldn't fu/han calculation be required in real life mahjong? i'm assuming people just take their time calculating score after a tsumo/ron or just refer to a fu/han score chart

>> No.6194254

Fu isn't hard at all really.

You just have to remember that a pon of middle tiles is 2 fu, you multiply by 2 if it's closed, by 2 again if it's made of terminals/honors and by 4 if it's a kan. Then you have an extra 2 if you wait for a single tile, an extra 10 if you ron with a closed hand or if your hand is open and only worth 20 fu.

It's very useful to know if you already have a mangan with 4 han (or even 3, although that's not nearly as common) so you can avoid to riichi for very little benefit.

>>6194254

>> No.6194286

>>6194276
Don't worry, it because natural very fast, most hands below mangan have a fu of 20, 30, 40 or 50 anyway, and 20 fu is very easy to detect (pinfu). So there are roughly 3 possible values for a hand and it quickly becomes evident which one is the right one.

Let's play tile matching game.

Seriously, four sets of three matching tiles and a two pair. Sometimes you can get away with same suit three in a row but it all depends whether you hit a hand-points requirement (which means, at worst, you have a triple of the non-suit tiles). There are fancy hands but you will never likely see them manifest in your hand. Your opponent will score them flawlessly. If you can pick up a tile an opponent is dropping, a moon rune pop-up will appear on your side and the piece will be indicated. You and anyone else who is eligible to collect the piece have 0-10+4 seconds to respond.

Make sure you remember which set of moon runes is "Mahjong;" you don't want to make the mistake of "would have won the round but accidentally hit 'decline discard pick-up' by accident."
