Nah, I like girls and all but when the entire cast is women you start seeing doubles or archetypes becoming more noticeable. Also, I find men have more oustanding character to them and they get ignored because the girls look cute and fluffy.

Women are manipulative, shallow, illogical creatures who run on emotion. Men are indeed, superior. But the 2D female is pure and perfect. I don't care it's 100% female cast as long as it isn't a slut fest.

New lurker here. I wish I was at least at the OP's level on Touhou knowledge. I know next to nothing about Touhou at all.

Is this board really that dedicated to the characters in the shmups, or is there some major story/manga/non-shmup series I'm missing out on?

I played Perfect Cherry Blossom and noticed there's just gibberish arguing between characters in between battles.

Touhou has lots and lots of fan made stuff, from manga to porn to anime shorts, basically for every primary official game there are about 5 full length fan games, 20 fan music albums, 100 doujin, and 10000 images. There are also one or two decent length ero anime, and quite a few PVs or shorts.

The people who only play the primary games love to get on a high horse though.

Most people will tell you to play and beat all the games first and all that good stuff. PCB is the best one to start with, MoF is fairly easy to. EoSD is a bit harder but has a lot of popular chatacters in it.

The touhou wikia has almost everything about the characters and story you would want to know, as well as links and information about the offical mangas, which more or less are side-stories to the games, and mostly help to fill out the characters and the world a bit more.

After that, you could grab the torrent with a ton of translated doujin in it from gensokyo.org.

I would personally play them in order. EoSD is the first game for Windows. If you choose to play them out of order you may encounter characters from previous games and have no idea who they are.

Also, music is a huge part of the touhou fanbase too. Imagine how popular final fantasy music was and the remixes and stuff it got and times that by 100 and you have the touhou music circles.

No one plays the games. just read the doujin and fap to the hentai like the rest of us.

The games are fun and I like the musics, I can't care less about the fanbase
