Try re-running the patch on one of the prepatched copies?
Check your settings to make sure voice volume isn't turned all the way down?

Put your computer in Japanese locale. Uninstall everything. Reboot. Install the game again using the mirror moon installer. Take the voice files and put them in the folder then run the installer again.

If that still doesn't work, then I don't know what could possibly can.

Re-running the installer once doesn't seem to do much.
Doing it a second time ends up making me re-install Fate from the game discs, does nothing as far as voices go.

One thing to note is when I check the install log, it doesn't have extract on any patch file higher than 5. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

In-game voice volume at 100.
Laptop's voice mixer has all sounds from Fate at normal volume.

Another thing to note is that the second test button (the one on the right) doesn't do anything when it's clicked, unless it's the bgm button. If that is the case then I only have 2 buttons to test audio and neither test voices.

Nope, I can get it working just fine on my other laptop which is running Vista.

Well I'm trying all kinds of shit now.
Went between English and Jap locale so I can make sure I completely clear Fate off the computer. I'll extract the files again, reboot then try playing again.

Just to make sure you NEVER had to run the installer to make your file work?

Just to my desktop. And then I ran the fate.exe from within in the second fate folder. As in the one with the game files.

Make sure the voice patch is the highest number in the list. The mirror moon scripts don't call for voices, I think. e.g.: patch5.xp3 must be the voice patch, otherwise the game will load a non-voice imbued script, disabling voices.

Any idea how big the file should be?
The pre-patched copies I tried using had al the way up to patch7, which is the RN patch if I remember correctly.

The script patch for the voices should be ~200kb, while the voices themselves are 800+mb. They're separated into two patches, and as far as I know, the RN patch allows voices if patched OVER them. I've got 8 patches in my folder now, the voice script being 6, voices 7 and RN patch 8.

By that my Voice script is 5, voices are 6, and the RN patch is 7.
What about your instal.txt? Mine only says it extracted up to patch5.xp3, at least that's the last thing in the file.

Just FYI, the version of the RN patch I've seen bundled with torrents is a really old version. Might want to consider updating it once you get voices working.

Patch6 is created by the installer rather than extracted, so yeah it should stop at 5.

Did you check VoiceSelector.exe to make sure they weren't all unchecked?

I'm still not having any success despite all the help I've gotten so far. It seems most people can just extract and go, but for whatever reason that's not the case for me. I'll keep working at it over the weekend. I appreciate not being trolled or sage bombed.

Rather, he should try to see if it works on a different computer w/o fate ever being installed. if I were to bet, I'd say a registry file somewhere is screwing up the whole process. Although its drastic, the most sure-fire way of getting it working is to do a clean windows install.
