That's really all it boils down to. I like how most of these new sprites look for the most part, but the facial design is strictly amateurish. Ryukishi's faces were great because their expressions were based off of feature control, not outright distortion and exaggeration as this sprite artist infamously makes use of in his Beatrice troll faces. Seriously, heavy forehead shading and exaggerated pupil contrast?

Ryukishi's main problem was he suffered horribly from mitten-hand syndrome. His faces, however, were excellent at conveying emotion and looked great

What we need to do is find a way to merge Ryukishi and this sprite artist together, then we'll have the best of both worlds!

I've heard people mention a "Clown Shion" spirite from the Higurashi port, but have never seen it. Could someone be so kind as to post that image?

This, pretty much. Ryu's proportions might look wonky, but his designs and facial expressions are great.

Seeing an artist replace another's art leaves a bad taste in my mouth to begin with, and the expressions play a pivotal role in Umineko's atmosphere. I wouldn't mind as much if the new art was undeniably awesome, but replacing it with mediocre art is just pointless.

I do like the backgrounds though.

In the Higurashi ports they toned down some of the more perverted jokes, but the violence was perfectly intact. In fact one could arguably say one of the PS2-original arcs, Tsukiotoshi-hen, was the most violent arc of the series.
