Should I do this?

While the pay might not be so high, it's quite reasonable for maths teachers ($40k off the bat here), so I was thinking of doing that. My parents want me to be work in a hard working corporate job earning lots of money but I don't think I'm good enough for that. Plus lots more holidays. Not as cushy as academia, but academia hardly pays at all.

Given my Japanese skills, maybe in the future when I have enough experience I could teach at an international school in Japan.

Just teach maths where you live. It's not worth it to weeaboo your life out.

Oh, I see, you're another lost case.

You have been given your advice. Please get out now.

Go for it.
If your alternative is working in a corporate environment, then don't hesitate and become a teacher.
Just try to get a job at a good/decent school, that can make all the difference. And remember that it takes at least some people skills to be a teacher - most of /jp/ probably couldn't make it, but if you're confident in that, then why not give it a shot.

Anyway, why not go for a lower school grade? I bet you could touch some lolis and get away with it.

I hear they're totally willing.

I was just planning on being an accountant for a while, then trying to retire early.

Namely because,
>[almost every single damn job out there] takes at least some people skills

Don't know why you'd want to be a teacher. You have to work after hours too much grading papers, essays, preparing lectures, etc. Factor in tutoring hours, mandatory teacher workshops, mandatory meetings, etc, and you have tons of time with little pay.

Sure, summer vacation could make up for it, but it still seems like a lot for such little pay.

This is why I plan on teaching university or college courses. Make one shitty powerpoint to use for the next 20 years, only give a midterm and final, and you're set.

it's actually a lot less. taxes. also higher cost of living.

Ausfag here. I make $40k and I can't even afford my own apartment.

That's for working in central london (since cost of living is high), it's a bit lower as you move out from the capital though. I wouldn't want to work in a rough, troubled inner city school though, yeah.

People say I'm good at teaching them things, I'm a bit shy but I can manage fine.

No doujins, just random pics, sorry. :(

I have no idea about other countries, but at least teaching first year high school (7th grade) students here isn't hard, though I have to work for 11 hours strait with only lunch time being my break.
Though I'm almost done with this shit, bought an apartment, I'll be staying there all day and just receive money from my tenants monthly. Soon.

also, OP, if you can get the corporate job and it pays better, fucking go for it. stop being a pussy. you'll thank me in twenty years.

I was also thinking of becoming an actuary, but I'm inconfident about company interviews. Most seem to be really competitive and ask lots about teamwork and leadership and other previous experiences which I suck at. I'll try though.

>>6129202
Academics sounds really competitive to get into though... I just couldn't wait till I'm 30+ to have a decent home either.

What I can't understand is people going to the lengths to do a PhD then going into teaching. Some teachers and even non-teaching staff at my school were like this. I wonder if that was their plan all along.

>> No.6129245

Japanese high school teacher teaching english is a terrible, life draining job. I would rather sit behind a computer in a cubicle writing a report about fund allocations to the new vending machine in the break room then teach another class.

Oops I mean it is all candy and anime OP, go for it, live the dream.

>>6129243
you don't actually need people skills to get the job. you just need to spend a good amount of time prepping for your interview. Stage mock interviews and the like.

or you can, like, go be a loli-touchan sensei. but then you'll be a poorfag all your life.

I've been looking into actuary internships but most seem to require experience in previous jobs which I don't have. I hope doing some non-actuarial work experience would be enough for me considering my maths/statistics background.

Either way I'll be a poorfag compared to my peers who're get into IB. D:

well, obviously nobody's gonna hire you if you have no experience and no qualifications.

you need to get certified. study for a few months, pass the tests, and bob's your uncle. oh, it helps if you're a member of whatever actuarial organization your country has, too, depending on where you are.

>> No.6129293

I think you're fine as an actuary as long as you can pass your exams and not be a complete idiot. I'm finishing up my major in applied mathematics and it's something I've been considering as well.

The only thing to consider about being an actuary is if you'd rather not take it easy for about 4x the pay or if you'd rather take it easy and live a more humble life teaching or something. Since you're on /jp/, I doubt your life requires much in the way of expenses besides figures and shit.

that's still nine hours a day. and you have to get up early. besides, it deosn't matter how good the hours are if the pay is shit.

seriously, only way this could be worth doing is if the lolis are all over you. but alas, RL is not a harem anime.

I wanted to be a high school or middle school teacher too in the past. But then I realized most kids nowadays are little motherfuckers with absolutely no interest in learning anything nor any respect for their teachers. And since you don't have the right to beat them up, I think this job might become extremely stressful after a while.
