Do we know that? While it is said that due to the fall from the cliff Lion can't love anymore, what would rather point towards Lion being male, (s)he says that sexual identity was kind of a trauma. Now (s)he has that long hair, which is rather untypical for a man. Due to the trauma it is possible to assume that Lion would do anything to make the sex clear cut. Taking the length of the hair, one would tend to assume Lion is female.

So, it isn't possible to make a unquestionable deduction at this point as far as I can see.
