Just recently got windows 7 when I had to install xp on my new hard drive since the old one was fucked. Was encouraged by my one friend to get it so I figured why not.

If I didn't upgrade at that exact time, I would have never done so as it's just how I am.

This is good behavior, you should get used to it.

On Linux or Mac OS X, the same box comes up for the same kind of things, and it forces you to type in your administrator password, instead of just clicking on an okay button, by default. And Linux and Mac OS X have been doing it for years since before Windows Vista/7 started doing it.

64 bit 7 is the only OS I use on my 3 computers. One is a pretty old HP laptop that I gave a new HDD and some cheap RAM, and now it runs 7 like a champ.

Aside from the whole "file ownership" and "run as administrator" stuff that can get annoying at times, 7 has never let me down.

* Explorer is actually not a shitfest and enables to browse fast; you don't need to look for your unzipped files or others because they stand right there next to your archive instead of being automatically sorted. It gets painful when you have a folder with lots of files.
* You can view gifs with no additional software.
* It hasn't UAC nor a load of crapware you won't even use.
* No file ownership/administration crap (yes, you can disable that).
* It runs just as fast as Win7.
* You're not obliged to type and use the search function like MS wants you to, instead you can do everything by mouse. It's faster.
* Start Menu gives a far better overview, again enabling faster work.

Aside from that and other things I can't remember now, it's a pretty good OS. I just don't like the UI changes which I find make it more difficult to work. If you're not retarded, XP is an awesome OS but I guess people like to be spoon fed.

Also, the explorer in 7 is fucking horrible. WHY ARE MY FILES SCATTERED EVERYWHERE!? I ORGANIZED THEM IN FOLDER, WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU TAKING THEM OUT OF MY FOLDERS TO SHOW ME THEM? That's not helping me at all. I don't go to your office and pull paper out of your folders, throw them onto your desk, and say "Here, it's easier to find them now!"

I'd really like it if someone told me there was a way to make explorer more like XP's explorer. Maybe then I'd have more incentive to upgrade.
