Now that we can see Miku's concert on BD, it's staggering how much they fucked up some parts of it. Just look at that image to the left -- it practically looks like they forgot to turn on antialiasing in their render or something.

Bizarrely enough, as per the image on the right, they got it right in some parts...

>> No.6072580

Aliasing artifact moe~

>> No.6072584

it's a limit with the current hologram technology, it's not as noticable when Miku isn't doing full body movement and when the camera is further away, but when the camera is closer and Miku does full body movement you see major A/A problems.

>hologram

It's not a hologram, just a fucking transparent anti-glare screen.

In some parts of the video, even with high motion and closeups, there were no aliasing issues. In other parts, it was totally fucked.

To answer the OP's question, there are two separate Miku models used in the concert. In the OP pic, the one on the right is the Virtual Diva model used in the games. One assumes she is vectored and as such is entirely without pixels even when zoomed in, though she does have jagged edges as a result.

The one on the left is the Miku made with updated Virtual Fighter software. (Seriously, that's what a documentary in Japan told us about this concert.)
This Miku has smooth, silky hair, but not designed to be zoomed in.

The reason they used two separate models was that they were going to choose one or the other. But they found out that the Virtual Diva is better at body movements while the Virtual Fighter was better at facial expressions. There was no clear winner so they used both of them mixed together at different parts of the concert.

for all it's flaws it's still a technological marvel that they pulled this off so well. a live band keeping in sync with a pre-rendered vocal synced to a pre-rendered performer projected for a live audience- a lot could've gone horribly wrong.

lots of credit to that band, many of those songs sound better than the original recordings.

I was semi-disappointed after seeing it in 720 how blocky some of the parts were. They made it worse by zooming in, and often they got high camera angels that refleted the entire crowd which was distracting. There were a few brief times where they had a shot from audience level and the "screen" she was on was crystal clear, I wish they would have done more of that.

Overall it's still pretty damn badass though. Was planning on actually purchasing a BD, but really the extra quality isn't worth it... still awesome though and of course you can't expect something like this to go flawlessly when it hasn't been used much.

I don't really see any reason for you to go with 1080 over 720 though, if you were debating, save the hard drive space imo.

My torrent is done in another ten minutes and I'm really looking forward to this. I've watched the Niconico rip a few times and Miku was very mesmerizing, though I think they could've done a better job at choosing some of the songs; many good ones weren't in there.

Luka was absolutely amazing, all her songs were good, and dat stage presence. Miku felt more expressive overall but Luka brief appearance out of no-where just blew me away.

Too bad Rin and Len were horribly disappointing in contrast to Luka. Their models looked kinda awkaward (though Rin more so than Len I guess) and the live-version of their songs was kinda meh.

As for Miku's models I really prefer the new model over the old one, I have to say; the new one looks so alive and her movements are just lovely. The old one is nice too I guess, but it very choppy when compared to the new one.

I hope I can overlook the flaws in the high quality version. I'm still kinda planning to buy the DVD, I'll see if I can afford it.

Watching it ATM, and while I'd prefer that the camera didn't zoom all the time and would stay at the same place longer the only thing that has really bothered me so far is the sound recording.

Miku's voice seems like it's been added in afterwards and it drowns out both the musicians and the crowd. Like when she was performing Popipo (and yes, I hate them for not including a longer version of the track) you could hear the crowd singing with her yet you could barely hear them. What's the point of watching a live recording when you can't hear the sound of the crowd or the live band properly? Not to mention it's not very flattering when the Vocaloid voices don't blend with the music.

It's not horrible or anything but it could have been better. I'm enjoying the visuals though; I'm sure it looked better live but this is still quite impressive.

Much more apt to think of Vocaloid as a musical instrument - like enjoying music with Latin guitar in it or something. I wouldn't even just label it as a vocal style, as many of the better producers push the voice banks past what's possible for a live singer in subtle or unsubtle ways.

Watching the concert again reminded me of how shafted the twins got, especially Len. The 3D models were half-assed compared to Miku and Luka, the song count and selection was pretty poor... What's the point of Rin singing Kokoro solo instead of bringing Len out to do the infinitely superior duet version? I've got some high hopes for next year's concert though, since Len/Rin Append will be out and their popularity should be on a rise right about then.

Pretty much all the songs are by no name producers. A few have started making their name in the music industry (slowly) based partly on the NND following that their Vocaloid stuff has, but for the most part Crypton and all them just sell the software, and it's all consumer/fan content that you're hearing and watching on NND and youtube.

It was projected onto glass. I think that it has a pretty wide angle that you can view it from before it looks too wonky, it isn't like they just used a projector onto a white screen. If you pay attention during the video, you can see the light from the projectors, they're behind the glass panel projecting towards the audience.
