My pianist has almost untouchable by the normal attacks, but she really lacks fire/cold/magic/chaos/nether resistance. Bosses using magic or enemies like queen will kill her in 1-2 turns. Do you have any idea how to fix this? I don't have any artifacts with the resistances I need to stop dying to those damn mages? (The Diablo is a spare weapon, she's a ranged fighter with 10d6+27 x2.6 damage and 165% hit chance (pretty decent for a non-combat class, right?)

Make a new character. And this time, be smart and choose a fairy.
Otherwise, you're going to need to eat a lot. Have you taken a look at the food page on the wiki?

Using her gene, right? I'm not sure how that system works, though.

Fire resistance is easy. Go to the Dragon Nest and kill Vesda. Eat Vesda's corpse for a large boost in natural fire resistance. Equip the Gloves of Vesda for more fire resistance and the ability to do vorpal attacks. Vesda is a chump, but load up on fire-proof blankets before facing him. With as much fire resistance as I have, I can go toe-to-toe with Ebon and kill him without ever taking any meaningful amount of damage, and I don't even need fire-proof blankets. Hell, I can go around setting off Ragnaroks and never even entertain the notion of wasting inventory space on blankets.

>>6002597
Well, for the first part using some of the preset artifacts aren't that great honestly. The shield of thorn is just a damage boost and overall does little for your protection. A shield that has some good resistances may serve you better due to your problems.

Also get the palmia pride and stop wearing an aurora ring as a regular piece of equipment, those are just meant to be put on when hard rain comes out while you're on the overworld and that's not that often.

Another tip, get the steel dragon ring and a mount. Get good at riding. You'll live longer if you have more turns in comparison to your enemies.

Also get a better chest armor. Your composite mail doesn't even have a special attribute like defender. Also why the hell are all your stats so crummy? What do you look for in your artifacts anyway? I want to know what enchantments you get currently from them?

Also get a pair of sevenleagues. They're better than the shoes you get from the coward knight for traveling on the overworld. You might also consider getting a pair of adventuring shoes for when you're in dungeons and not the overworld.

You can quite easily become a master of everything in this game. The only (slightly) limiting factor will be your stats, and even those are able to be manipulated to a good degree.

Although you could just reroll. Trust me if you have Elona fever you'll be dumping many, many more hours into this shit anyway, so go wild.

It seems like for every 1 accomplishment I make in the game, I come across 2 or 3 more things to do. I haven't played such an in-depth RPG since Morrowind (although I found it much easier to cheat the fuck out of that game, using spell makers to make temp. buff + soultrap spells to give permanent stat boosts every cast).

God dammit, this game has so much content. I wish I had more free time. ;_;

It gets rid of Ether disease and removes a few of your negative mutations that you gained from the Ether disease. However, if you let the Ether disease spread for too long, you could rack up enough mutations that even a potion of cure corruption wouldn't fix it all.

>> No.6006211

>>6002597
Simply put; you need to find better equipment. You may need to make sacrifices in some areas if you want to shore up your resistances. Hold onto stuff like "xxx of fire xxx of cold" and such, those typically provide awesome resistances to the corresponding element. But for the more exotic damage types, like Nether, Chaos, Mind, Sound, you're going to need to look pretty hard.

the <Unknown Shell> is a great start, providing and instant #####+ resistance to sound; more common than the other types.

the unique rings, <Ring of Steel Dragon> and <Palmian Pride> offer more resistances, which will help with some of your weak spots (and are both pretty amazing in their own right).

<Gloves of Vesda> are all you need for Fire resistance, and they're pretty awesome by themselves too.

Keep looking for <Miracle> or {Godly} level equipment; sooner or later you'll find practical pieces of equipment with the resistances you want. If you're truly lucky, you can even find stuff far superior to certain (Special) quality items.

>> No.6006217

>>6005143
It will also kill you after the 20th mutation.

>> No.6006243

>>6002597
Equipment isn't the only way to gain resistances either.

Eating certain corpses can also help you gain resistances, although they typically only work in small amounts, meaning it would take multiple feedings to develop even # much resistance.

Corpses of Hounds, for example, are a great start. Each type of hound imparts a small bit of resistance towards its type. Eating poisonous foods, kobolds, spiders, and such will help you develop resistances to poison. There are others that can impart resistances; such as Issizzle.

Some corpses may look bad but are actually good for you. Other corpses may look good but are actually bad for you. Good example of looking bad, but actually good: Hands. Eating hands will train your strength. Also, Imps. Eating Imps will improve your magic.

If you're anal about your diet, identify every piece of food you come across; cursed food will often reduce the bonuses they might have bestowed upon you. If you have an item that "allows you to digest rotten food", you need not worry about whether your food rots or not; they'll impart the same boosts as if they were fresh (however, if you're incapable of digesting rotten food, you'll receive reductions).

Personally, DV is better than PV, since, even with high PV, later enemies can hit you for unbelievably high damage with a single punch.

>> No.6008099

>>6008021
PV is more important than DV. If you neglect PV to the point things can kill you in 3 or 4 hits, sooner or later something will crit you twice in a row and you will die. PV lets you know exactly where you stand as fighting power goes. DV lets you fight more before having to withdraw and heal. Excessively stacking DV early on means things will not hit you, you will not level your armor skill and you will not level your healing skill. So when you find something that can reliably hit you, you are pretty much boned. Having only PV isn't a good ideea either because you'll take damage you could have otherwise avoided, which adds up even if drastically reduced.

Bottom line is, the strongest and most reliable character has roughly the same PV and DV, and respectively armor and evasion. Look for materials like griffon scale and dragon scale which offer both PV and DV in sizeable amounts while being light enough to accomodate casting.

>> No.6008169

>>6008099
Also, PV and DV aren't reliable indicators of your survivability. A character can have 0 DV yet evade all the time if he has high evasion and greater evasion skills. Add to that how evasion and greater evasion can be easily increased by 5-6 levels every encounter with an asura/mithra/varuna (prefferably of the <> variety) and you'll soon find that DV gear isn't all that appealing anymore.

Similarly, your armor skill contributes much more to your actual defense than your PV. Unfortunately armor skills are the slowest leveling skills in the game which makes PV a better bonus to have on gear. However keep in mind every piece of gear can have a 14 PV value from enhancements and bless. With 9 gear slots, this adds up to 126 PV with gear that has no PV value. Holy shield is an underrated and underused skill which everyone can reliably cast and gets absolutely ridiculous as it levels. So, instead of being obsessed with finding and using adamantine gear or other such silly ideeas, try giving your holy shield a boost.

What gear is worth using if PV and DV are not as important as everyone makes them? Resistances first and foremost. Special bonuses like vorpal attack, extra attacks, damage reduction, see invisible, protection from thieves.

Some materials are only findable with gardening, mining, and fishing. Honestly for potential potions it'd be more practical to get your performer up a bunch and then become an avid investor in magic venders. Gear with +investor skill will help a lot too. Rogue bosses used to annoy the fuck out of me, killing me pretty much every time I tried to fight them, so after getting sick of that, I would just exit the game and load my last save if I encountered one. However, now that I've leveled more, have better gear, and 5 good pets (one of which is a silver bell), I can kill them pretty easily. Their drops are pretty decent for a low level (12) like me too.

That's one of the reasons I like this game- it's hard as fuck when you start out, but you can build your character up from nothing and accomplish stuff you normally couldn't do when you were less-experienced.

My next goal is to get good enough to kill traveling merchants and get their epic items for free, rather than having to pay them for it. I have a long way to go before I can do that, though...

><Moyer> the Crooked keeps the fire giant shackled up, and for a good reason. If you unshackle the giant (by opening the shackles next to him) then he will escape and burn everything in his path. He will never go after you deliberately, though, and an infinite number of Palmian elite guards and tourists will spawn to fight him (and lose, probably); the combined factors means that with a strong fire resistance you can dodge in and out of the havoc and grab everything of value that killed NPCs drop. Whilst he is keeping everyone busy you may also consider doing some looting using Pickpocket.

Bring a statue of Lulwy to make it rain so his fire attacks don't destroy everything on the ground.

I've had a crazy amount of luck in this game.

-Within the first two hours of playtime, I managed to capture a gold bell in the puppy cave wielding nothing but my starting equipment + two rings I stole off of Lomias (One of which happened to be Miracle Quality).
-My little girl pet managed to get a wish for me upon returning to Vernis after a few more Puppy Cave money runs (largely unsuccessful, but for the Gold Bell). Received glass seven league boots of cold.
-Proceeded to rob adventurers blind, gaining a lv 42 monster ball, a Vindale Cloak, and an aurora ring, amongst other things.
-<Whom Dwell in the Vanity> killed himself via starvation, so I got all of his equipment.
-After nuking Palmia, killing everyone but the King, Queen, General, and a few spare beggars, an assassination attempt occurred. Queen's dead, got Miracle bardish for my troubles.
-20 wins in a row at Blackjack, received (56, 6) robe (or was it 6,56)? I don't recall.

Also, after foolishly believing that a mass monster infestation would be easy to kill with 5 lv 10 bells and a Titan, I managed to save-scum my way to victory against a horde of what became 73 Mass Monsters (My pets have lost Grenade priviliges).

You need to change the name every level to get the perfect sequence of bonuses, so he had to use five scrolls of name. It's worth it, though.

Now, if only he would share the sequence he used. I checked out the japanese wiki, and found a name list for living weapons, but it didn't seem to match my weapons, or maybe I did something wrong or didn't interpret the list properly. It could be that the ranged weapon name list is borked, or something. I suppose I'll try out the list when I get a melee living weapon I like.

Shena's panty and Beggar's Pendant also work depending on what appears in party time quests for you. If they don't seem to cut it, try blessing one of them and using enchant scrolls. Also search for "art" in your elona folder for your art.log. It's basically what your game reads to you and wipes when you read an oracle scroll. Simply open it and read it each time you enter a party time quest to see if something spawns.

If you're willing to scum a bit farming them though you could possibly get name scrolls at a decent rate. Simply shoot all imps bred, if name scroll dropped yay, if not then quit out of game by clicking the X and reopen game. Repeat.

MP Drain didn't work (ran out of healing, not a single overcast, and had dropped him to HALF HEALTH BY THAT POINT), I can't find enough resistance for darkness to completely cancel that out (magic ironically is high enough to render that in single digits), and actually damaging him is borderline impossible. (For future reference, that titan could tank a level 90+ minotaur and kill said minotaur off before it died without any outside help, and the twin bell...is broken, but even it goes down to the repeated spells eventually.)

Levelwise, I'm 32, the Titan is 40, and the twin bell has actually leveled up... a LOT. Got it at level...10 or 15, now it's at level 27.

Since ammos can't get enchantments besides ammotypes and ones from material that means only a helmet really. Each piece of gear has ## performer skill besides for the ranged weapon which has ### increase meaning I have a 60-105 skill boost in performer. They're combat instruments, and thus very poorly suited for performance. They're also probably enchanted.

A fully golden piano would be a terrible instrument, and would result in a horrid performance (note that I'm not talking about pianos that have been gilded in some external manner unrelated to its performance - that's a completely different thing, and that I'm talking about completely mundane properties - the manga that inspired the Kill Kill Piano in Elona is not related in this manner to my commentary on a fully golden piano).

A lute designed and/or enchanted to be a spectacular shield would also make a poor instrument.

Plus the fact that these are specially enchanted items, and so take into account the fact that these aren't made for performing but for assisting someone in combat.

But maybe they'll be changed in the future to boost performance instead. Either is acceptable, I think. I like them as performance penalty items, though.

First of all, do quests from town, preferably Before it's Too Late, buy two storage house deed, one at Port Kapul and another one at Derphy. Make sure to buy every single scroll of return you see.

Keep doing quest until you have enough money to buy Deed of Shack, make one at Noyel, then use the rest of your money to buy cargos from both Port Kapul and Derphy, you can download the trade chart here: http://elona.squares.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4449&p=24821&hilit=trade#p24821 to see list of profitable cargo.

After you think you had enough, use scroll of return to return to your home, and sell all those cargos. Repeat as much as you like, free free to change the location too since travel from or to Noyel could be a pain in the ass.

does your god being indifferent to your gifts cancel them out? I've been at it awhile now and don't seem to be getting anywhere 100+ offerings by now, though I've been praying every time I get the indifferent message now

Praying reduces your favor by 15%... it's offering stuff at an alter that increases your favor. Also, make sure you have a high enough faith level.

Your maximum allowable favor is ([your faith level] * 100) + 25, and the minimum favor for the first reward is 1525 IIRC, so you'd need 15 or more faith and have a lot of offerings. Keep in mind that certain things get you more favor than others, so the exact amount of offerings you need varies depending on what exactly you offer. I don't remember what it is for the 2nd and 3rd rewards, but they should be on the wiki somewhere.

If you're getting the indifferent message a lot, it means you've hit your ceiling value for favor. Just wait until you level up faith a bit more before offering anything else.

ah that explains it.
I read something about it elsewhere but it was sort of misleading, thanks for clearing that up.

I have a helm and a ring that gives me an extra attack, but does it stack, or does it just take from the higher of the two?

I hate you. Then again, I have almost every special artifact in the game (aside from the helm, only ones I'm missing are the Kill Kill Piano, Ragnarok, the Rail Gun, Friesa's Tail, the Twin Edge, the Arbalest, Shena's Panty, the Vanilla Rock, the Ether Dagger, and the Stradivarius. Out of THOSE, only Ragnarok and the Rail Gun are out of my league to acquire (have two wishes just WAITING to be burned, and with contingency up, I probably can just throw cursed booze at Kumiromi until he falls over). The Kill Kill Piano is only a matter of performing a LOT (already got the Al'ud), the Twin Edge is only a matter of time, as is the Arbalest, Shena's Panty and the Ether Dagger are jokes to get (I could even shoot for Ragnarok as well), and the Vanilla Rock is also only a matter of time.

Back on topic, I believe they stack. Wear both of them and hope you get the Twin Edge (very rare drop from the mitra family). I believe you will kill things at a stupid rate.

I only have that, the Shena's Panty and the Stradivarius. I really wish I could find the Hiryu-to, but waiting for an adventurer to get one so I can see if I can trade them. Not too good with getting artifacts other than those three unfortunately.

Oh yeah. Thank you for the info!

Also I guess this thread is now autosaged. Hopefully a fresh one will pop up later tonight.
