Bought an epilator a ~2 weeks ago myself (pic related) after I found that my hair was annoyingly stubbly after only two days if I used Veet and that I suck ass at shaving my legs. Oh God they were horrendous monstrosities after I tried shaving them... A few tips.

1. Do NOT epilate first. Assuming you bought a decent epilator that doesn't catch your skin, the most pain you will experience from using an epilator is when it catches a long hair, tries to yank it out, and instead breaks the hair (outside of that it isn't painful at all so long as you're not trying something like your upper inner thighs/upper chest). Instead, buy a tube of Veet/Nair and depilate wherever you're planning to epilate. Epilate ~2 days later. Be sure to follow the depilatory's directions word for word, bad reactions to depilatory agents can really hurt.

2. Take a hot shower before you epilate and be sure to exfoliate. If you don't already own a loufa, go buy one. No, a shower pouf is not good enough.

3. Your first time is going to take a looooooooong time if your legs are as hairy as mine were. Honestly, I worked on them for over an hour, had to come back to them the next day in order to finish, and the job still wasn't perfect.

4. Don't put any pressure at all on the epilator as you're working. It should just barely touch your skin at all. Applying pressure will rub your skin raw and accomplish absolutely nothing since the tweezers won't actually catch any hairs.

5. Stick with it. It gets easier, faster, and less painful with time.

On the left is a pouf. On the right is a loufa. There are other variants, including ones with cloth handles that look more like poufs. They're similar and have the same function, the difference is in how well they work. Also, while a pouf will hold onto any bar soap you may scrub into it, a loufa doesn't, making shower gels a better choice if you want to exfoliate and wash simultaneously. When I got my epilator about 3 weeks ago I got used to the pain really fast. The first day was my lower legs, second day was thighs, third day was pubic hair/asshair/etc.

Taking a hotshower+painkillers really helped. It did not hurt that bad when I did my pubes. Plus I was able to use it in the shower so even more pain/noise reduction.

The hair is already coming back and I'm exfoliating more than I should but I don't want ingrown hairs.

There are very tall girls in real life and shops that cater to them (long tall sally fits everything on 6 foot models), so there's no reason to give up unless you're built like a football player. some years ago i simply tried burning some hair off with a lighter
this worked pretty nicely for me
over 90% of the hair in the area permanently gone and pristine skin
but i guess if you don't do it right its easy to either burn your skin or don't kill the hair first try
(no to mention its extremely time-consuming)

so if you can get the money somehow... better let a professional do it
