>Calea zacatechichi, also known as Dream Herb, Cheech, and Bitter Grass, is a plant used by the indigenous Chontal of the Mexican state of Oaxaca for oneiromancy (a form of divination based on dreams.) The plant naturally occurs from southern Mexico to northern Costa Rica. It has been scientifically demonstrated that extracts of this plant increase reaction times and the frequency and/or recollection of dreams[1] versus placebo and diazepam.

I personally tried some and it didn't really do much for me.

Its kinda weird, since I always tought imaginating myself having sex with a 2d was impossible, until it happened to me. When I was eating Sakuya out, it was kind of a mix between 2d and 3d, or what I'm trying to say is that in my dream I wasnt aware if she was either 2d or 3d, when I woke up, I realized she was kind of a mix between the two, the best way I could tell it is that it was probably 3d but with some features that were 2d that my mind proceded as 3d. It didnt look silly or anything.

I've had three Touhou related dreams so far.

1: At the end of some random dream, Cirno and I kinda "wrestled" a bit, if you know what I mean.

2: I had control of Sanae with my Xbox 360 controller, and I had to press up and X to make her run up walls. She could also jump on enemies heads to defeat them. I remember staring at her 3d model for a while, and it was pretty amazing. I couldn't believe my mind could have come up with such thing, since I'm not really an artist or 3d modeler.

3: During some random fps dream, I remember there being a screen on a while that was playing a top down 3d touhou with Marisa.

You're always in sleep paralysis when you're dreaming.
What you're probably referring to is when you have a Wake Initiated Lucid Dream, that is, when you try to become conscious of your dream by being aware that you're falling asleep (or some shit like that.. I didn't look into it very much because it can get really fucked up).
As for the scaring part, you're always 'conscious' in your dreams. Lucidity just means you know you're dreaming.
The reason beginners often wake up after they realize they're dreaming is because they become excited and this jolts them from sleep.
As far as I know, this is not a defensive mechanism.

I had a dream where I couldn't find my politics class and I was in the wrong room until I realized I was in 2000-19 instead of 2000-20. I left as the female teacher came in and went to the right room. I ran into my professor in the hall and we entered class together. Class started, and he was talking about how we'll be teaching maritime search and rescue someday, even though we won't know how to do it ourselves. Someone started foaming at the mouth, and me and someone else dragged him down the stairs to the doctor's office. The doctor was a woman who had a pistol for some reason. While the doctor tried to treat the foaming guy, dozens of zombie humans and creatures starting pouring into the room. There was a tiger and a mermaid, among others. I fired the doctor's pistol at them, but it had no effect. Finally, I ran out of ammunition and they overwhelmed us. When they cornered us, the leader of the zombie people emerged and said that we should join them. He had a handful of pills and told me not to say anything. Then he started putting pills in the survivors' mouths, and they starting foaming at the mouth and dieing too. When he got to me, I put my hand over my mouth and begged him not to. I grabbed some pills from his hand and put some in his mouth instead, and put some pills in the zombie's mouths too, and they all starting foaming and soon they were all dead too. I started running away to find my car which was 9 blocks away with another survivor who I guess I was related too. It was dark out and I couldn't run very fast, and we kept running into followers of the zombie leader guy. One of them tried to convince us to join them, but when she stepped forward to talk to my companion, I snuck up behind her and snapped her neck and left her by the roadside. My companion said I did a good job and we started running again. We came across a heavily wooded area, which was good because then we could see the flashlights of our pursuers, then I woke up.

You'll never see yourself. You might see someone else or a monster or nebulae or a blank wall where a mirror should be, but mirrors don't reflect normally in dreams.

She was working as a body guard for someone important that was talking to my parents in the next room. Might've chatted with this important person as well. It could have been Remilia, I can't remember. Sometime later I greeted either Nitori or Suwako while waiting for my ride.

The second involved a couple of people (including myself) being dressed as Reimu at some party or gathering. One of us might have been the real Reimu.

I had a Touhou related dream.

I was playing one of the games on Lunatic. I can't remember what game exactly, the patterns seemed made up, and I can't remember the character. But it was Lunatic because the game said so.

I 1cc'd it.

I cheered in my dream, and then I woke up, smiling and with my arms stretched over my head. I ran to my computer. I still can't 1cc SA on Normal. I cried.

I don't even care if she actually does anything, just to think she'd be part of my subconscious mind is appealing to me.

Well, okay, I guess she has to do fucking something, but it doesn't have to be sex or relationships or something.
I just want to take it easy with Patchy.

People who get lucid dreams usualy have a rather unsettled mind.
The lucid dreaming state itself is a rather unsettled sleep and during proper sleep your brain activity is generally too low for you to have proper lucid dreams.

Also, lucid dreams aren't always that great, sure you get used to having lucid dreams you can usually learn to manipulate them as if you have control over "reality", being able to do time skips and change point of view, wake up at will, and manipulate and alter anything really.
But as stated above, lucid dreams aren't that good for actual rest, eventually you will miss being able to sleep normally, and if it gets worse you might even start to feel drowsy within your dreams.

But then there's the catch, the nightmares.
Lucid Nightmares generally turns into some kind of horrid super nightmares.
And fear is a funny thing you see, andin a dreamworld it can take more or less any shape, if you can fear, then fear can also visit you in your dreams.
But fear is extra dreadful in a dreamworld you control.
Fear is an emotion as any other, and emotions and thoughts are linked and it's these emotions and thoughts that forms your dreamworld. If something scares (like real fear) you in a lucid dream, even if it is just for a moment it doeasn't change the fact you felt fear, and that's enough.
When struck with fear in a dreamworld it doeasn't easily go away, it doesn't matter if you erradicated whatever scared you in within your dream, the you yourself, your mind, is still scared, whatever scared you within your dream is just an illusion.
But while illusions might not be real, they still aren't powerless, the fear they can induce is real, the pain (yes, pain in lucid dreams can be real pain) that it can bring is also real.
And as long as you feel fear, no matter what you do within your dream the nightmare won't end, the fear will take new shapes and reform, but it won't end.

Lucid Nightmares truly can be horrid.

But even with all those amazing lucid dreams I could have, I still don't really miss my lucid dreams.
Sure I can long after some amazing dream like that from tiime to time, but I don;t really miss what came with it.

As mentioned above, to have natural lucid dreams, your mind generally needs to be somewhat unsettled somehow, and in other words also not quite capable of fully resting.
COmbined with how lucid dreams themselves doesn't really give the same benefits as regular sleep, combined those factors can get quite tough.

But sure there are techniques to for lucid dreams, how to realize you are dreaming (and not waking up).
Reading walls of text, checking the time repeatily as if you had some kind of mania etc etc
WHen your brain lowers it's activity and shuts down others certain tasks can be hard nonetheleast, reading or undersrtanding what time it is can mess up your perceptions in ways that (should) only happens in dreams, if that happens and you don't wake up from the shock, then you may very well have taken your first step towards real lucid dreams.
The very fact that you realized that you are dreaming also contributes to your ability to remember things from the dream itself, cause when you realize you are dreaming your brain activity ups itself some, and your dream becomes even lighter, and light dreams doesn't do all it's memory organizing tasks such as "flushing the RAM" for an example.
/Eventually after being used to lucid dreams you should be able to realize that you are in a dream simply by "feeling" it. Being asleep and being awake aren't the same after all, so it is only natural that it feels different, normally when we are asleep however our perceptive powers are usually just too low for one to realize the difference, but experience can compensate for your lack of perceptive power while asleep.

But my strongest memories from my rather long period of lucid dreams is still that I was never fully rested, at least it never felt like it.
Sure I could rest and it wasn't that bad at all times, but it was also never that great and at times it could be really bad, so naturally I felt tired.
But it was also a relatively tough part of life for a whole amount of other reasons, when most of those issues got better, I also started to sleep better, and when I generally started to feel better my lucid dreams gradually slipped away.
And now, years later, I rarely ever have lucid dreams anymore, and funny enough I can't really say I miss them for some reason, even though I have many extraordinary memories from that period of my life.

That said, I don't really know why, but I don't really reccomend them that much anyway if they don't come "naturally", cause even though I have a hard time to describe lucid dreams as anything other than extraordinary nonetheleast, I still can't really feel anything other than how lucid dreams are overrated.
Perhaps the fact that I knew they were all dreams lessened any "satisfaction" could get from it, don't really know actually, it's just a feling I can't really get rid off.
My line of thought when I think back always end something like "Yeah lucid dreams were kind of awesome, truly, but meh".
Then there was of course the nightmares, but that was only an occasional thing (even though they could be rather common at times).

>I find it hard to be scared in a lucid dream when I know for sure that I can ridiculously fuck up anything that may spawn, but that may just be me. Hell, you can just wake up if things are going badly, why not just do that?
My mistake, I was actually going to cover that, but the post became kind of long and apperently it didn't make it.

But sure, most of the times it was natural to wake myself up, no need staying int he dream if it's no good, right?
If something scared, well rather "startled" me, then of course it wasn't that big of a deal for the huge majority of the time, you just "made it better" yourself with your controlling powers.

I guess I should have been more clear, but I used the word "fear" for a reason, the word fear is actually quite strong, but I guess people overuse the word.
Simply being startled or scared by smaller or mediocre things shouldn't have to jepordize anything if you aren't already kind of down for some reason.
But when genuine fear kicks in, then shit gets real.
It has a strong effect on your mind to not go away easily.
Even if the you in the dream make everything be allright, there is still a chance that you are still afraid, only that you haven't percieved your own fear properly, you could misjudge the fear as some similair emotion or throw it off as adrenaline from whatever happened previously.
But if things starts to get ugly and refuses to go away (because you still have fear), then it can eventually bring subconcious thoughts of helplessness.
That not being able to erradicate whatever induces the fear even with all those powers can have quite some impact, and it can affect you to the point were you start to doubt what you can do or not, even if you didn't particuarly have such doubts on your mind.

>> No.5988806

>>5988801
And how should I put it. Such fear or shock, can easily "diminish" your powers, and to realize that you your powers have diminished somehow, even if only to a lesser extent, that realization easily furthers the diminishing even more due to doubt risen from why it "X" didn't happen entirly as you wanted it when you tried.

And now, I can't call my self some sort of expert or anything of the sort, cause I have never went through with actual reports or studies on the matter, but I did once in college try run a kind of "survey" about lucid dreams.
And I talked with them some on their experiences on lucid dream. Sure it was only with my fellow students. and even tough there were quite manny students as a whole I only managed to talked with a few that seemed to have had actual lucid dreams.
But the majority of them actually explained that they had had similair experiences on fear and lucid dreams.

And what I have heard and a few of my fellow students at the time pointed to if not there could be a connection somewhere.

And I don't know, there could be, I never did do a research on the thing anyway.
But I still have a line of thought from that time.
If it is true that an unsettled mind is more receptable to the state needed for lucid dreams, then it may not be weird for nightmares to have a stronger impact on lucid dreams themselves.
Cause (this one may perhaps be rather obvious), an unsettled mind is at the same time more receptable to nightmares.

In the end if one were to confirm an actual study on the thing I would figure that it would come down to the relation of fear and lucid dreams and their effects on eachother.
But yes, fear is a powerful thing, and quite possibly even more so ina world were everything is controlled by your inner emotions and thoughts just like it.
