How do you play your Touhou? Do you read all the dialogues, have an understanding of who the characters are but never bother to check the wiki to read more about the story or bosses that appear in the series or do you sit down and read the script along with character bios before launching the game?

>> No.5893464

I actually only play the game for the dialogs it makes it more fun than just going to check the wiki.

>> No.5893474

I read the character dialogs once or twice when I first play the game. I check on other game-related canon material when it's first translated which is usually around the time I first play the game.

The exceptions are probably extra boss dialogs since it takes a lot of time for me before I can unlock extra, let alone finish it.

I make sure to keep myself updated with all the facts, even if only because I think it's fun. I want to know as much as possible about the universe.

I only play touhou games for the config.exe. I look forward with each version to ZUN's improvements to the options in config.exe.

Everyone else is a secondary as far as I'm concerned.

>> No.5893488

Translation patches, read the dialogue as I play.

I still need to play through Sanae's scenario, but I really dont want to. Also need to finish a few of the Extra stages.. Although I could just -read- them on the wiki.

i'm a flaming secondary and only like the franchise for the doujins

Playing Touhou for the dialogues or characters is like playing an RTS for its story.

If anything, Touhou would benefit from the removal of its characters and setting, because those are what's responsible for attracting the worst types of "people" - Iosys, Walfas, Mugenjohncel, youtube, gaia etc - to the fanbase. None of them would have the slightest interest in the series if it had spaceships instead of girls, and it's not like anything in the actual scoring and gameplay would be negatively impacted.

I never really had the attention span to read what the bosses have to say for themselves. I just wanna blast them away with my lasers.

>> No.5893511

I skip through the dialog and get to shooting.

>> No.5893519

I don't read any of the dialogue, so I don't require translation patches.

I'm playing to dodge bullets. I intend to dodge bullets.

That's a poorly made comparison. You think that there aren't people who are still interested in single player mode? Not everyone sits on Xbox Live all day or wherever kids play these days.

If you remove Touhou's characters and dialogue and replace them with ships, you basically strip touhou of at least half of what makes it unique.

I agree. It's not like a game like Touhou suffers from some interesting dialog. It can only enhance the experience.

Unless you're some elitist that goes butmad over a few TouTube comments, I guess.

Fuck off, I enjoy Campaign mode in my RTS.

Also thirding >>5893541
I play Touhou to see little girls throwing cheesy lines and pink lasers at each other, if I didn't want that, I'd play something else.

Hello, I think that Touhou actually has pretty interesting dialogs going on from time to time. They can be both tricky and unique in a certain Touhouesque way. Though I realize, most of the time, there is no deeper meaning to any of it.
